The story of two men living among the upheaval of early 20th century Japan. The lives of novelist Shunko Matsunaga and painter Suicho Ichiyanagi are completely engulfed by the environment of the volatile time period.

First, casual reminder to be very wary when reading through this mangaka's archives, because his works vary between soft mundane stories (like this one) and HEAVY KINK. BRUTAL KINK.
But this story is one of Tagame's slower, softer series. And it's so good. The pacing is slow and soft, the developing bond and yearning is subtle yet so palpable. Both main characters are stuck in their way of thinking, and yet together they brought each other out of the mental-emotional prison they found themselves in and that's so beautiful.
And I wholeheartedly enjoy the way it fleshes out postwar Japan. It's quite a common setting in these kinds of romance and yet they rarely flesh out the details to this point.
And I love the girl editor and what Tagame is trying to say about gender by her existence. While it's in no way like modern feminism, it's still an important step in the past towards gender equality, and I appreciate Tagame for his willingness to include this to his gay romance because the struggle expressed by women in this story are directly mirrored to the struggles experienced by both MCs.
