Kare wa Tomodachi

Description

In her middle school days, Hiyori only has eyes for Mizuno, a popular guy in school. She then partners up with Sasamoto Ren, Mizuno's best friend, and both hatch a plan to bring her and Mizuno together. However, things begin to change, as Hiyori and Ren grow closer, and they find themselves falling in love... with each other. As old loves fade away and pave way for new ones, obstacles also threaten to tear them apart, especially Ren's seemingly innocent but scheming friend, Kotone, who shares a past with Ren and isn't about to let him go.

When I started reading it I thought it would be another cute but kinda boring manga. But it´s definitely not boring. The story went in a direction that I totally didn´t expect. It´s serious and grown-up, and the characters are only about 15 years old! I really like Hiyori, she´s strong and speaks her mind. The only problem I have with this manga it´s Kotone. It´s been a while since I hated a manga character so much. Hehehe.

This manga is so unpredictable in so many ways and it always leaves you wanting more. The first few chapters were very sweet, but as the story progresses you learn more about the characters and there are some SERIOUS SUPRISES!! And as the comments before had stated already Kotone is such an a**!! She knows how to manipulate people and I'm especially mad at her in chapter 7 because of what she did. wink wink The story is definetely AAAAA--MAZING!!

I can't think properly right now. That's how angry I am. D:<

EDIT: Ok, now I'm good. It's so refreshing to see that Hiyori isn't as easily affected by misunderstandings caused by the other girl. I really like her way of being direct with Sasamoto. It keeps the misunderstandings short and it actually gives more life to the story. I wish that the mangaka will continue in this same vein until the end. That way, the readers don't need to get suffocated over continuous lovers' spats. 😀

Possible spoilers:

As of right now, I'm kinda thinking that Yuuma is SOOOO much better than that Sasamoto. Why doesn't he understand that frequently meeting with another girl (even if she's only a childhood friend, or maybe even more so because she's a childhood friend) makes his girlfriend uncomfortable?! He's a bloody nitwit! If he really likes Hiyori, he shouldn't let her have any doubts about him. It would have been much better to say that he did sleep with Kotone-bitch. ARGH!

This shoujo really takes a turn away from the typical shoujo story, it's something new for me as it's something I don't often come across in a shoujo manga and I'm enjoying it.

Very good serious read, realistic and mature main leads with a lot of integrity

Deals w very realistic, real world themes, and characters are very developed and mature, with their own personal motivations moving the story consistently all throughout. I’m quite glad this is not the typical cookie cutter high school shoujo drama even though it seemed to start like one. This is an emotional roller coaster ride of a read so do expect a lot of ups and downs, and it is written so well that most panels are quite necessary and can not be done away without messing up the meaning of the story.

This manga deals with a high level drama like most commenters have mentioned but it’s executed nicely and personally in my opinion, it’s not overdone. It just seems like there’s a lot of drama bec the author chose not to have a ‘slice of life’ feel to the story, opting more to immediately tackle effects and consequences for each decision made by all the characters involved. And wow, decisions the characters make! Decisions with a capital D for sure - shows how mature the main characters are and how they try so hard to keep their integrity intact. This is not your typical wishy washy shoujo story that one often comes across. Best of all, the story and characters developed very naturally; and I love a very believable story... there’s no ‘cringing’ bec of cheesiness or a necessity for a suspension of belief, and that’s what made it a good read for me, events flowed smoothly. I do agree with most commenters that one of the side character really was very irritating, but I do believe that her character is still within the realm of believability... there ARE people like that.

My only complaints to this very well written manga is (1) the transition to with Yuuma in the middle of the series was not as well written and well paced as the rest of of the story, so there was a slight, but very obvious hiccup to the flow of the story and (2) (I think this may be a personal opinion) although the ending is nice and a happy one, since I love realism, it would have been more realistic if the final conflict was resolved but the relationships among the leads remain as they were. Although not too glaring and obvious, if one would give it a serious thought, one would notice that the ending did have a slight rushed and incomplete feeling. But overall it is still an acceptable ending and well done.

I love this manga, the characters and how it shows how serious people deal with serious issues. It’s definitely top notch. If you’re looking for a light read, this is not it, find soemthing else. But if you want to read soemthing w real substance , this one won’t disappoint at all, I’d strongly recommend it.

I didn't expect it to be so good, with all the shoujo manga i've read so far, i've never seen such a mean b*tch as Kotone who's really enjoying doing her super dirty tricks.

no offence but the latest chapters, the girl was a slut.

she does it TWICE with the other guy while she knows that she still likes the main male lead. fkn bitch. im so pissed at her. WORSE, SHE BECOMES PREGNANT. NOT ONLY THAT, BUT THE GUY WHO IMPREGNATED HER DOESN'T TRUST HER AND THOUGHT THAT SOMETHING HAPPENED BETWEEN HER AND SASAMOTO SO HE THOUGHT IT WASN'T HIS. COMPLETE. DIECKHEADED. JERK! ASSHOLE!! UGH. FCUK. I COULDN'T READ ON. SHE DOESN'T DESERVE SASAMOTO. AT ALL. YET HE'S STILL NICE. She should've just done it with him in the beginning, then the series wouldn't have become so fked up. I would've rated this one a 7 or 8, but after that, can you really criticize me? GOSH. She even gets a miscarriage because she didn't know she had one. Poor child. But, hey, the father is worse, you know? O.O

So, after reading that, do you still wanna read on? I know it might be close to real life, but for effing sakes, she KNEW she still liked the main guy. SUCH a slut. Would've given it 8 or 9, but after reading that, it immediately sunk to a 3. EDIT: read Criminal Intent's comment, similar to mine, and totally true about having extra 3 volumes of bullshiet and how the characters go 180 degrees. FK. so pissed i wasted my time. NOW, it just sunk to a 2.

I just started reading this series and I gotta say it's quite unexpected..
I really dislike stories with this kind of relationships...

Arrg!!! I really hate Kotone - she should just back off...

It pisses me off when they broke up!!

But I still like the story.. I really hope Karen and Fujisaki would end up together...
On the latest chapter I wish that Mizuni is not the dad.... TT_TT

It started off mostly cute and light, but it's descending into the sort of soap opera where everyone's unlikable in their own way.Kotone's a stand out selfish brat.
