On the surface, Satoko has it all she’s beautiful, the daughter of a nobleman, and at a prime age for marriage. Unfortunately, she is also quite ill and only has a short time left to live. Before she can secure a marriage that will redeem her worth in her family’s eyes, she finds herself the target of the mysterious assassin Shinpei, and her plans are put in jeopardy. not for the rich Yandere CEO fans

It's a solid story with good art and great women characters.

The FL is a serious girl who is in marriage talks and wants to marry someone who will benefit her father whom she loves very much and was always very good to her. But she will meet, be saved by, and eventually fall in love with someone who could never be presented to polite society.

The plot and pace is solid so far (Ch 31). But to really enjoy this story you will need to like Yandere characters for being purely Yandere. If you love the ripped CEO yanderes because they are ripped or rich and not purely for the Yandere aspect this might not be the story for you. Because there is not much going on here for the ML, logically speaking. He has no money, no family, no future (as in he can die because of his profession as an assassin), no patronage, his body has no muscle but is full of ugly scars. His temper and inability to understand proper behaviour is also not the best. He is the worse prospect, compared to the second male lead and to other possible marriage partners. But he IS in love with her and sweet (in a Yandere way). He is honest and tries to have good communication many times. He is many times a kind person.

It's only that the story doesn't have an easy way out for them, so even with the story not being melodramatic at all so far so difficult to see how they could end up married. So, if this is your cup of tea then this is probably a good story to read.

Fantastic Yandere Series

I find it fascinating that this is in the Shoujo genre because I find it much more Seinen personally. Regardless, if you're into the Yandere character type, this is a must read. I read a metric ton of this genre (mostly books), but this manga is a standout because the male lead is actually very interested in the female lead's consent. If you engage in Yandere, you'll know the lack of consent is a common trope, and, while I have nothing against that, seeing the male lead so invested in her consent over her domination is very refreshing.

Satoko is sometimes naive because of her sheltered upbringing, but she grows from her mistakes and, most importantly to me, always makes a point to be useful where she can. Sure, she can't do much against 10 assassins all after her head, but she can outsmart the conniving nobles and courtesans who would plot against her.

Shinpei is a force of nature, stronger than any other swordsman, but he wants to know love in his own way, strives to work with Satoko and talk through things, and I find them both very refreshing as leads.

I look forward to where this story will go since we're only 26 chapters in, but there hasn't been a single miss yet.

Edit: after seeing the manga in Japanese, I think it's Seinen after all. There are no furigana on the kanji, so it's definitely intended for an adult audience. As a heads up, there's violence, nudity, some sexual stuff, and so on, but no gore (e.g. viscera) or explicit sex yet, so genre could definitely go either way.

The art is what I came for, the female lead is what I stayed for xD She's an interesting study in how a girl with a quiet and meek personality can still be assertive and stubborn about what she wants. The characters feel complex and interesting to read about, and while yandere male leads aren't usually up my alley the one in this manga actually seems interesting, if just barely on the edge of being a little unbearable at times (I'm chalking it up to his messed up upbringing.. or lack of any at all). I'm also enjoying just having so many female characters in the story with important and interesting roles. Really intrigued with how the mangaka is going to end this story because right now it feels like there are no easy answers for anyone involved xD I don't want to spoil too much but one of the side characters really makes me feel bad for him. I hope the managaka has the time and plot space to give him some more development before the story has to end.

High Beginning, Low Repetitive End

Spoilers because I can't figure out the markdown to hide stuff 😭!

I LOVE yanderes especially male ones. So it is with a heavy heart that after 65+ chapters I am disappointed in where the story has gone.

The series starts off with high hopes as Satoko and Shinpei make a daring escape off into the unknown. There are assassins, thugs, and powerful people pulling strings behind the scenes that Shinpei will have to defeat to protect his fragile newly minted fiancee. Meanwhile Satoko has to rely on her sharp wit and strong will to survive from the greatest threat to her life, her new murder-happy fiancee Shinpei, in order to return home and fulfill her dream of becoming useful to her household by marrying someone her father wishes before her illness takes her life.

Can Satoko keep Shinpei's protection without alerting him of her true intentions? Can she balance the feeling of filial responsibility she has with these unusual new feelings for this man who smiles gently at her as he stabs a man straight through the heart? Will Satoko be able to survive long enough before her illness takes her life?

Sound good? Well great because now for the next 55 chapters this "journey" is stuck in the same location!

The problem with the really good setup of this story is that the author doesn't know how to take advantage of it to place the characters in new and interesting situations. The series does a bad job of advancing the plot, and instead focuses solely on character development without real escalation. Instead of focusing on Satoko and Shinpei's story on keeping her alive, the main objective Satoko has is:

Escape off the island (somehow)
Try to convince Shinpei that staying on the island isn't a good idea

The main characters almost seem like they don't WANT to get off the island,!! It's like the stakes rise, and then immediately fall back down because oh no we can't pay the ferry fare, oh no someone burned a key item to help us get off the island safely even though we've done nothing but be nice to this person, OH NO SHINPEI CAN'T KILL ANYMORE BECAUSE SATOKO PROMISED HIM NOT TO? PLEASE LET THE YANDERE BE THE MEDIEVAL NUKE HE IS DESIGNED TO BE THANK YOU.

The stakes rise, and then immediately fall back down to the status quo. And this basically happens for 50+ chapters and that is the problem with this story that it doesn't escalate properly like an AMAZING story would.

I cannot stress enough that with such interesting leads to the story, the lack of new locations and actual progress in the main questline are basically it's downfall. There is a reason most adventure stories do not take place in the same location. You need new characters, new locations, and new information to spice things up! Yes it is fun to see Satoko battle against her bullies and threaten to sew up their v----- with a needle and thread. Yes it is insanely fun to see Shinpei malfunction and go yandere and threaten to murder other people because he thinks they are trying to take Satoko away from him. But ultimately for 50+ chapters, the story is like a car stuck in the snow turning it's wheels. The wheels of the story turn, and the characters might learn more about each other during this time, but it is not moving forward and it is not satisfying.

[DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW] My Prediction for How the Story Will End: Firefly Wedding begins with someone at a grave reading a letter saying "I loved someone I should not have. I was so happy." Ok we know from the beginning that this story is (likely) going to be a tragedy unless the author hopefully does a bait and switch at the end and turns out both of them are alive.

Well, towards Ch 60 of the manga Shinpei has broken his promise and has killed the sons of the neighboring houses to Satoko. Like this man's demons have been unleashed and the author has basically set him up to be irredeemable (booo!). I predict Shinpei is going to die-thus redeeming himself- and his strong yandere samurai heart will be transplanted into Satoko. Giving her a very long life that she will live while holding his dear memory.

With a prediction like this, I really wish I could have all my time back that I spent reading this manga 🤡

There is interesting parts but also super cringe

I can see the appeal why people like this but I don't think that's a good thing.Hard to explain I just find it weird and pretty embarassing for those who find this type of ML cool. God..every character acts like a teenager

they may say some wise and mature things once in a while,true,but they are still feel like edgy teenagers.

I don't even like yandere types but he wasn't too bad.FL also has a 'i can fix him' mindset.Which I don't mind either,I hope she fixes him. I didn't really care for the other characters,they seemed unsincere/fake to me.Actually interestingly side characters were more annoying that the mains,that doesn't happen oo often i feel like. They live in a depressing world and of course with brothel aspect of the story it gets more depressing(i hate brothel stories).

This is also has the same problem as raise wa tanin ga ii- direct wide-eyed deadpan/or just tired eye deadpan stare to scare the other person is exactly the why its so cringe..hence the teenagers trying to intimidate you feeling i get from this. there could be better face expressions..this problem seemed way too common and i got tired of looking at their faces.
