Love this manga! I can't express my feelings properly... Love between Cain and Riff wasn't romantic but beyond description... I definitely recommend Count Cain to everyone who wants to read something different, special and full of drama... My heart is with you, Jezabel Disraeli <3

Count Cain

Count Cain: The story of how noble inbreeding seriously screws up the offsprings' heads.

It's a fairly well-done series, but after the tenth chapter or so it just feels like the same drag being reused over and over in almost Scooby-Doo-like consistency. Brutal murder, hypnosis, incest and/or pedophilia, so on and so forth. Five volumes of this is just too much.

Why it is shounen-ai.

I know most people is interested in this fact so I will give you some reasons.
1. Riff's loyalty and devotion to Cain: Riff has been with Cain since he was a child and has promised to stay with him for the rest of his life (or almost) - he said: "I will always stay by your side; this is what I want". This could be taken in a romantic sense. in addition, at the end of one chapter (chapter called sound of a boy hatching - 37), we can see Riff holding cain in a very shounen-ai manga cliche scene where the two lovers finally found each other.
2. Cain's own questionable sexuality: in the manga, cain is described as a lady's man but he would blush (rarely but still) around men. There were also instances when he finds another man cute.
3. In one chapter, a group of gentleman kidnaps boys and dresses them as girls to make them their sex toy.
4. Riff is also the only one who could see Cain naked and not even his sister can do that.
5. (and this one I am not sure at all), Cain is supposed to be very beautiful, there may be instances where he is admired by man.
--------------------------
I hope that helped somewhat. But if you shounen-ai lovers who actually expect a love confession, this is not for you!! You have been warned.

You know, I wouldn't really consider this manga "shounen-ai" because it really doesn't have it anywhere in here. I think I portray Riff and Cain's love as: honest love and loyalty of servant and master, a trust no one can break. It sort of freaked me out that Riff isn't really the loving to Cain as he really is and I have to admit, that was the biggest surprise. But the ending was...beautiful and tragic. Poor Cain's sister. She was so attached to Cain even if it's just a small amount a time with him, but I believe she has a good life even after his passing

Honestly, this is my most favourite manga.smile The storyline, the characters and everything is perfect... I was really touched by the story's end, I cried like a child. Riffael and Cain's relationship is so strong and beautiful, I've never seen such a wonderful connenction with two people before! Yuki Kaori made an excellent work with them, it really broke my heart T_T Masterpiece <3

I adore this series. Not really shounen-ai IMHO except brief scenes which are more plausible as deep fneed and friendship but that works for me. The characters are really interesting and the plot is great. What starts as simple mysteries becomes very involved and the constant little twists are brilliantly placed. I happen to love the ending as well, it really fits with the mood of the manga and the gothic theme is well preserved throughout without sacrificing emotion or humanity. The art work in Godchild is better than in The Cain Saga but both series have great art anyway. Points lost simple due to a couple of inconsistencies I noted which bugged me. Still a must read and one I'd definitely read again. If you like Angel Sanctuary you'd like this.

shounen ai?

Really the hints of shoune ai can be counted with one hand, so i think this is more like a shoujo. Many seemed to mention that the artwork was bad, but i did not notice that although it's quite old so i guess that is probably what everyone meant. The story is pretty interesting and keeps you want to keep reading further because of all the mistery, i love the gothic style shoujo too. Off to read the sequel now.

My 2nd Kaori Yuki manga. I love it so much. Though the art work in Godchild is much better. Too bad Sakura Crisis stopped scanlating it.

The artwork in this is not as great as to her sequeal God Child, but has some interesting plots.
