Ten Count

Description

Corporate secretary Shirotani suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder. One day he meets Kurose, a therapist who offers to take him through a ten-step program to cure him of his compulsion. As the two go through each of the ten steps, Shirotani 's attraction to his counselor grows.

No, i dont mean that as s pun but now that ibthink about it ... Hahaha!

Anyways, i just want too frel something for the main characters. I kkiw that uke has ocd and the seme are displaying his own side of the crazy card but the premise is really good! I want more! I hope the author will be able to delover- i wont drop this the art is too giid abd as i said i like the ocd concept cause mental disorders aside from suicidal tendencies are so rarely talked about in manga.

Started out good but ends up disappointing

I had hoped for something interesting seeing how there are rarely manga about mysophobia. Something to stand out or give me something new to think about, but nope, this is as remarkable as average BL except slightly more annoying that every scene was predicable w/o even trying. Doesn't help that the MC is like the typical uke and other characters are on the bland side. Overall, nice idea but could have been handled better.

First off, the art is excellent and though it takes a while to get to the smut, once it starts going... well it seems here to stay xD As for the characters, Kurose is a little difficult to understand in the beginning

-I feel like I finally fully understood Kurose's character in ch20- however he is pretty much a confirmed sadist (not really hardcore but he definitely likes to mess with Shirotani). If you want a seme who waits for his uke to advance the relationship, this really isn't the right story for you.

What I feel that most people see as dub con is probably in the way the story's told. Kurose seems extremely keyed in to Shirotani's level of comfort. He definitely pushes him beyond his comfort level, but Kurose also seems to know when it really is too much for Shirotani and when it's not. Can that be considered dub con? Yes, but there are also not always extremely visible lines in real life. An SM relationship is all about pushing an M beyond their comfort level but knowing when it really is too much. Maybe Shirotani isn't a confirmed M, but Kurose would be looking for that in a relationship so it's not all that surprising that he would push Shirotani. (And although Shirotani is being pushed beyond his comfort levels, he's really not reacting much like some rape victim but rather like someone falling in love for the first time who's emotions are all messed up, imo.)

Shirotani, on the other hand, has an interesting take on mysophobia since he

seems to see himself as dirty and he wants to protect others from his own dirtiness. This is seen with the incident that seems to have started his mysophobia (in the closet) as well as the fact that he begs Kurose to promise to wash his hands after doing sexual things with him and not before.

Honestly, I've really been enjoying this story. I fell in love with Takarai Rihito's (and Tachibana Venio's) Seven Days and have enjoyed her works ever since.

Actually I'm not really a fan of Takarai Rihito. I really love her art but her stories are not that interesting to me (except for Seven Days though). I don't really know why this series is so popular. In fact, the plot really has potential and I was very excited at first. But then everything went downhill.

The way Kurose treated Shirotani pissed me off. At first he said some crap like he'd help Shirotani to cure his phobia but all I know is that he just abused Shirotani's body all day. He was like an emotionless beast, ignored all the suffer Shirotani's been through because of him. Even when he cried or begged, Kurose never had the intention to let him go. It really confuses me, is that the way you treat people with Mysophobia? Push them down and use sex toys on them? It also annoys me how Shirotani just clenched his teeth and flowed with everything, like he had no power to resist Kurose.

Every time I read a yaoi manga, the thing I want to see most is how they love each other. I want to feel the love between the characters. But with Ten Count, I simply can't feel anything like that. The art is excellent though. I'm kinda curious how the story will end but I don't think I will continue to read it.

This manga has everything that I've longed for. The pain, the sweetness, and the smut XD

I love Shirotani and surprisingly I also quite like Kurose (I usually find Takarai sensei's seme too "soft" for my liking). What a pleasant surprise.
Looking forward to the next chapter. Definitively my most favoratite manga from her so far (okay maybe tied up with Hana no mizo shiru and the manga hasn't end yet but you get what I mean)

About some complaints below, I say read it and decide it yourself, everyone has different taste after all. Its nothing. Really.

when i started reading this manga i thought it would be a simple, sweet story of shirotani overcoming his mysophobia while gently falling in love at the same time. it's a common premise with a better take on mysophobia than others mangas, though still imperfect, but i thought rihito-sensei would do it well and give us a sweet story like hana no mizo shiru.

BOY WAS I WRONG. LOL

somewhere in the story the tone suddenly shifts and kurose is definitely out for shirotani's body. there's some s&m overtones and it becomes clear that the psychological part is actually the struggle between shirotani's obvious feelings and his mysophobia. kurose's s&m angle is just a bonus, i guess. there is definitely some dub con scenes though to kurose's credit, he's much more respectful than any other rapey semes i've seen (lol), but dub con is dub con.

so yeah, started reading it for the story, stayed for the sexual tension and the smut, i guess. xD

edit: finished the story, finally xD

everyone defending this saying "the romance is slowly developed!" and "the characters are complex because they have backstories!" need to sit down. I suppose there's romance and backstory there, but it's minimally developed at best. This is one of the hottest and best developed flat our smut/porn yaoi series I've read. Absolutely nothing more. None of the backstory or developments made me feel emotionally for any of the characters, just provided me with more insights to their motivations. Which is fine because now I know why they want to fuck each other so badly LOL

There's absolutely nothing wrong with this being purely a sex story. That's what it is, let's face it. It's hot and fairly well written S&M themed porn.

Best twist ever

Why so many people seem to find the S&M/Domination undertones disappointing? It's the best twist I've seen in a yaoi manga in a very long time. I dropped this manga once, when it was still starting to get published, I thought it was boring as hell and cliche. Then BAM Kurose is no longer the stereotypical "nice" seme helping this guy overcome his mysophobia, but he's got a dark side to him and we slowly get a glimpse of it until (holycrapsohot) he makes a mess out of Shirotani's feelings and body and he just loves toying with him, in a loving way. I'm glad I decided to give it another try since it turned out to be completely different from the first few chapters, in a GOOD way!

...up until Kurose molests his crush just out of the blue. Huuh? Is that where we're going now? It's not like I wouldn't enjoy this direction if it were written better--I like dark and edgy stuff, but Kurose hardly has a personality.

I REALLY like this manga! The story is VERY interesting. It's not everyday that you get to see such professionalism in a Yaoi. Phobias, that's cool! His phobia it's an interesting and very good concept for a romantic genre, ESPECIALLY in the gay section! However, they are a bit slow on the sex, which isn't a bad thing. They take their time to slowly develop towards each other. If you don't like that, go read a smut. This might be too SMART for you...

The art is BEAUTIFUL. It's light, it's gentle, it's refreshing, and it's detailed...almost. Hell, even their DICKS look beautiful! No joke! The side views look pretty bad though, which pisses. me off because a side perspective usually brings out the attractiveness in a character. This person's art does NOT do that. But that's just a nit pick that doesn't really matter.

What DOES matter are the characters themselves. The uke, the one with the phobia, is pretty interesting. Unique in his own cute psychological way. Riku is nice too, though his crush was a bit TOO obvious. Oh, and are they sexy? HELL YES! But even so, I kind of didn't really attach to them that much. I mostly attached to Riku, because I forgot the uke's name.

However, even as I say these things, there's one thing about it that I don't like about them:

EMOTIONS.

The uke and the seme just have blank stares most of the time. I mean, sometimes the uke will show a vary in expressions, but almost NEVER will the seme change his blank fucking state. Oh yeah sure, he'll curl THE WORLD'S TINIEST SMILE every now and then, but usually nothing. While the uke is a bit more expressive, that's not really saying much. I can definitely say he looks TERRIBLE when he's having sex. TERRIBLE. He...he just looks...BAD. Which is why I can't really TOTALLY attach to these characters because they look like DOLLS.

USE YOUR EYEBROWS! WIDEN YOUR EYES, YOUR MOUTH, SHOW ME THAT YOU ARE STILL ALIVE!! Ah well, at least they look hot, right?

So, do I recommend this even still? Definitely. If a harsh critic like me is saying this, then you HAVE to read it! Well? Whaddaya still readin' this for? Get out there, find it, and READ IT!!

My pervy comrades, that is.

Hmmm, I see a lot of discussion on the "rape culture" perpetuated in this manga. I'm stuck in a dilemma because I agree, but I adore the manga at the same time. It's one true guilty pleasure - the storyline is great, the smut is great, and the art is great. Shirotani's (pained) expressions take the cherry on the cake, though. What's not to love?

The art is fabulous. I love its clean-cut nature, and both Shirotani and Kurose are gorgeous hunks. The sameface syndrome isn't quite bad (in part due to Shirotani's mole below his eye), though it threatens to rear its ugly head on some occasions.
The story's premise is unique and it started off very well. Even though there are many complaints with the story moving too fast, I thought the pace was alright. It is a problem that we don't get to see things from Kurose's point of view, because from the hints we've been given, he seems to be dying of sexual frustration. Yay to more smut!
Smut, the reason I read this shrug... the author delivers, and she delivers wonderfully. I'm officially hooked. Controversial opinion: I prefer Shirotani to Kurose, because he's such a tease. Aw yea.

P/S: in defense of Kurose's rapey S tendencies, he has shown to care for Shirotani.

Other than the first "sexual assault" in the clinic, he really hasn't done much to invade Shirotani's personal space. He respects Shiro for the most part: he doesn't coerce him to do anything e.g. drinking the water or taking the train, and only touches him when absolutely necessary. As for the remaining sexual encounters, Shirotani literally asked for it, as in - "please touch me there"?!?!?!? Just a point to consider.
