This is for the Web Novel.
It starts out pretty strong, however, as the series goes on, we see less of what hooked us in ("MC Suffering"). The later chapters just get a bit crazy and frankly, not interesting. I suggest to read up until Chapter 131. Or you can read up to Chapter 190 for some Sadina goodness, then pretend it settles there and such. Otherwise, if you continue on, you might just get disappointed.

it's Such a Waste I kinda Like
Gaiden Yari no Yuusha no Yarinaoshi
it's funny to see Motoyasu's Perspective in his insanity
I just want to add a hate comment biggrin
oh well
dude buy the novel don't read the Web Novel Translation =_=
you keep saying novel yah it's a novel without an editor.
most light novels have an editor you knows to fix the wrong part.
it's a web novel so it's like whatever comes to his mind he puts in it.
the company will take care of the errors or so.
so just buy the light novel. really =_=

anyway this Webnovel is really good biggrin though it got boring later for me. it's not the worst but not the best. for me it's only decent around let say 7/10 biggrin

Unrealistic expectations?

And by that I am referring to the other reviewers comments about the MC. The main complaint can be summarized as "You got falsely accused of rape... get over it."

Is a rape accusation really that simple to brush off? In the real world people have sued for less than this, but the MC (because he isn't real) isn't judged by the same standards? Summoned into another world, accused of rape by the daughter of the King, forced to fight in order to save a world full of people who despise and abuse him, with a very real chance of dying, with little to no economic support and 0 offensive power... if the MC could still be benevolent, not utter a word of complaint and does not become fixated on revenge after all that then he'd wouldn't be human.

Overall the premise for this novel is cliche, but honestly most novels are these days. What makes a good novel is how the story unfolds afterwards. Character growth is definitely there and the characters, for me at least, are not two dimensional (most of them). It's not the best novel out there but it's still one of the more enjoyable ones. Pacing can be a bit weird sometimes, but not to the extent that makes you go "Wtf is happening?" Bits and pieces of comedy are also present. Romantic developments are a bit slow and feels more like a subplot than part of the main story.

Take my comments as you will, just wanted people to give this novel a go without thinking that the MC is a little bitch, when he really isn't. (Character growth isn't going to be achieved in the first few volumes people)

1 star for this novel

I am not the kind who complain after reading something but I did after I read this novel it is ultra-useless and it has more than 600 chapter I did not believe it but I also believe that there are many who does not know what it's mean of a story flow. There are many contradictions in the novel that you can't begin to comprehend. the main character is said to be smart but there are many stations that are very easy to solve but he cannot do anything about it after that he feels that he has been wronged. It like the author wants to create an unexcitable problem to existence and compel the reader to think that the hero has straggled and been betrayed to create a hero form it and give him the right to thrive when there isn't such a thing. I do not want to talk a lot because there are many problems with this novel no story no character even the side character does not have presence and no imagination ……etc.

This novel is good for the people who does not read books and does not know how a story should be built………………etc so they will find it good and will think I am hater . for the people who already read a lot of books and novels please do not read it's just a waste of time if you want to compare it just read Moonlight Sculptor and you will know the deference between heaven and earth.

"you can only sympathize with the betrayal if you are suffering from chuunibyou"

LOL. That quote from Kurantz's review is so spot on!

As the other reviewers have pointed out, the MC is never wrong and NEVER seriously questions his way of doing things, never seeks to change or improve his huge character flaws. He even revels in it, he celebrates and flaunts his flaws! - 'cos what can anyone do to an OP character whom the whole world depends on? I guess *everyone else* is going to have to just learn to adapt to *him*!

The MC is such an @sshat that the only kind of relationship he can think to build with people is SLAVERY! So long as everyone else is willing to be his magical slave (magic that tortures), then he can 'help' them.

Seriously, how sad and messed up is that? The MC is completely incapable of building healthy relationships, and so rather than change himself so that he can become a decent human being, he prefers a fantasy world where people can be turned into magic slaves and where there is no competition or pressure (because everyone else is so retarded that the MC seems brilliantly functional in comparison).

Particularly disturbing was seeing how the MC treats the child-like demi-humans and monsters. It is truly sick and deeply manipulative. The MC is also a crook who enjoys swindling people. The story tries to portray businessmen defrauding clients as the smartest thing since sliced bread! It's stuff you should be used to, and even, that you should emulate, it seems.

So if you want to fantasize about how you can 'win' at being a totally self-centered douche-bag, then this is the story for you!

Self indulgent garbage

Light Novels are well known for being light on writing quality but this really takes the cake.

Our protagonist is moody and unselfconscious; he only manages to seem likable by comparison to the setting which never makes even a desultory pass at believability.

It's never explained why anyone would want to summon random strangers to save the world or how this circumstance of cyclical crises was set up in the first place. Just once I'd like to see one of these cookie cutter kingdoms summon an actual modern day, professionally trained mercenary or soldier to save their kingdom. In fact I would settle for a fantasy setting that was something other than "vaguely european".

You can see the psychological deficiencies of the author play out nakedly in the work, our protagonist is an otaku of no particular will, personality or intellect. He never speaks of having friends and he casts off the bonds of family without a backward glance so that he can serve his true role as the reader's wish fulfillment fantasy stand-in. He arrives and immediately the whole world is set against him, which is not coincidentally the feeling that most self-involved immature fools have, its an emotional attitude best suited for a child.

After his "betrayal" an event that the author clearly lacks enough experience of the world to sell to any discerning reader; Our man the shield hero becomes embittered and jaded. Few things are more disgusting than a privileged 21 year old who thinks they've become worldly.

Its almost like the author was trying to be Freudian by making it clear that the only type of woman our protagonist can relate to is one who has literally been turned into an object for sale or purchase. Few guesses as to whether our protagonist has ever has a girlfriend.

More than a few light novels have protagonists who seem to jump into slavery with no sense of moral compunction, I don't know if this is just an attribute of this poorly composed genre of fiction written by and for crappy people or if Japanese culture in general just has weak moral fiber; I dearly hope its the former. Hopefully light novels are as representative of Japanese culture as Twilight and Fifty Shades of Grey are of American culture.

I would recommend this book for otaku who don't read books.

Is anyone translating real japanese novels? The kind that amount to more than wish fulfillment for moody teenagers? Where can I find those?

The problem is that they have to force such fake character conflict so readers can ignore his utter lack of character. We know next to nothing about Naofumi when he was in our world and he shows no true character flaws of his own. He would paraded around on a white horse as the next messiah if the writer didn't make the population hate him by default. Then there is the rape subplot that clashes horribly with the setting. You can't just have a RPG fantasy parody and then suddenly throw RAPE! into the story. The tone of this story changes from lighthearted comedy to dark adult fantasy at the drop of a hat.

He also has no foil. Sure, there are the other three knights but they are clueless morons that exist to make Naofumi look better by comparison. For once, I would like a character that could oppose or defy him without looking utterly evil or act like a total ass. Want a resolution to a problem? Ask Naofumi. He's the only one with half a brain. The story also makes the audience hate the majority of the characters that aren't in Naofumi's hare-, I mean party, defeating any reason to care about this save the world subplot. In other words, if you aren't kissing this guy's ass, then you are another moron that Naofumi can beat to prove his moral superiority,

Its the shallowest kind of nerd fantasy, in which the perspective can only be aligned with the main character and self worth is measured by the number of cute girls you can collect and the status of the people you beat up.

Imagine being suddenly thrown into a foreign country with only your clothes and no one to rely on because everyone who lives there, who are also strangers for you, think that you're a sex offender criminal.

It's easy to sweep the story behind the safety of your anonymity while sitting on your ignorant ass but put yourself in his shoes or just try to go abroad as an illegal immigrant and see how that work out for you.

Retarded betrayal and poor execution

When I heard this was about betrayal, I thought it'd be interesting to see how the story develops with a betrayal right at the beginning. But it turned out you can only sympathize with the betrayal if you are suffering from chuunibyou. The guy wants to deliver absolute revenge for some stolen clothes and money and rape accusations that he wasn't exactly punished for....just wtf? It doesn't help that the MC is a whiny, insecure prick the rest of the time.

Read a few chapters. If you don't get interested, just drop it. It doesn't get any better.
