i liked the art style and smut is super sexy. the ending feels a bit rushed. i just hope the mangaka gonna make a sequel about Ryouma x Hiroyuki couple because Ryouma's character design is actually my favourite.

Way to ruin a reverse couple...

Now, unlike most fans of romances I'm always up for stories that involve cheating. I like anything that tries to seriously deal with men’s lower passions... But this one is quite terrible.

Starting with the cheating, that isn’t treated with much depth or refinement. Granted, there isn't much space to develop anything thoroughly in one volume, but it’s still hard to believe that the main couple’s relationship is so idyllic when one of them gets tempted so easily. Well, the whole thing seems a tad circumstantial.

As the story goes on, there's no building up or any signs indicating the outburst of violence that later serves as the climax. Even if some might not consider it as glorification, the abuse is brushed off pretty easily, the victim even believes he deserves it and never questions his partner’s rationality. It’s perfectly gratuitous.

There's nothing really daring about this, we have a typical "punish the cheater" narrative, no real reassessment of the relationship and like most BL

it has a happy ending.

The only redeeming quality is that none of the characters are villainized, but unlike in Isino Aya's The Trigger, the problematic choices made regarding the subject of abuse are not compensated by a real humanist stance or an actual social criticism. Strangely enough, the manga doesn’t try to have a somber tone, it even becomes soppy, which isn’t helped by the fact that the author’s style is rather aseptic.
All in all, it’s one of many BL that tried to be thought provoking and failed.

Despite the controversial theme..

I think the mangaka did a good job of setting up the story and building up the tension to reach the inevitable climax we knew was coming but still couldn't help feeling intrigued about. I thought the portrayal of each character's relationship with one another prior to the big revelation was handled pretty well, like I could feel what train of thoughts flashed inside their heads and understand their dynamics and actions, and that's something I always appreciate. Not gonna comment on the plot and the ending because like I said, it's a pretty controversial matter and we all have our own stance on it. Just wanna applaud the author for coming through with the execution and delivering something quite thrilling and different from the usual BL flick.

Surprisingly Dark

What starts off as this cute story about childhood friends moving in together after finally committing to a relationship with each other quickly turns into a rather dark story. So if you're easily angered or disturbed by certain material, then i honestly don't know how you'd feel about this manga because it's definitely not for the faint of heart. Personally i was super intrigued by what was happening. I love reading dark stories however i do have my limits! This one wasn't too extreme in my books but it still left an impact on me. The characters weren't that likeable and had many flaws to them. Natsuki was a downright slob and only did things for his own pleasure and satisfaction which he eventually had to pay for.

Now the thing that had me the most shocked about was the abuse. I had a slight feeling something bad was gonna happen but not to that extent. No matter what happens in a relationship, hurting someone that you love is never the right decision. It's horrible. Cheating is a disgusting choice to make however that doesn't give anyone the right to beat the living shit out of their lover. This is only fiction so remember that. Cheating themes in yaoi is always a hit or miss for me but the way abe sensei portrayed it in this story was way too interesting that i literally could not stop reading. It was spicy and i wanted to know what was going to happen. Will arata find out? What will he say? Is it going to turn into a creepy three way? That wasn't the case at all. They were both in the wrong and truly weren't right for each other and it's bound to happen again at some point. Sure they took a break from their relationship but i have mixed feelings about everything. I don't even remember the name of the black haired guy who slept with natsuki but he deserves some sort of story in the future. He's a bland character not gonna lie and almost feels like he was just created in order to stir up some drama. I hope we get to learn more about him because he does have the potential to be a cool character. He had a good heart w̶h̶e̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ ̶o̶r̶ ̶n̶o̶t̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶ ̶w̶a̶n̶n̶a̶ ̶b̶e̶l̶i̶e̶v̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶. This stands out above all the average yaoi. Nigai no theme will stick in your mind for a while and it's totally worth reading for people who like a sprinkle of heart ache.

Even though I'm adverse to violence in BL, I can't bring myself to dislike this even a little. The difference is that it's not glorifying it. It wasn't fetishizing abuse. It wasn't even suggesting that what happened was ok. Things just got kinda real. This made me cry a little, and that's pretty rare. It felt more relatable than 99.999% of BL out there.

Is violence an acceptable response to having your heart broken? Absolutely not. Is it something that happens in real relationships and is worth writing about? Absolutely. I love the way the ending was handled. I love that they had to take time to sort things out. I love that their relationship is still tentative and delicate. I love that when they met up at the end, it felt SO real and so much like it really does feel when you're trying to give things another shot. Even though the abuse was admittedly somewhat triggering, it was still very, very good. Maybe in spite of it, or maybe(at least in part) because of it.

Overall, I think it's a shame to write this one off. It isn't the same trash I'm tired of seeing. And side note, Mr. senior(whatever his name was) is great and I hope to see him in his own series.
