The story is lacking, and so does the characterization.
Not one of Minase san's better works, the story is predictable and formulaic, it lacks sufficient inner conflict for the characters thus rendering them largely blah and not tremendously likeable. Kurosawa is two dimensional at best and actually comes off more creepy than not with his constant smirk and good cheer, particularly when he's being a border line rapist.
