I loved this story for the first 20 or so chapters. But then at some point I was pretty much over the female leads drama. She won't communicate properly about her mistake and then just dramatically goes along with it for all this time, even though she also clearly feels guilty. At some point it just got boring and repetitive. I did look up a spoiler of the ending, and it was a very satisfying ending. So if you have patience with the drama until then, there is a happy ever after 😌

Not a love story and not your typical Isekai

The plot centers around exploring the human condition rather than having your typical Mary Sue FL who does everything right, always makes selfless decisions, is and the most clever person in the room who girl-bosses her way to a happy ending with her quiet, misunderstood love interest. If you're looking for action, fast paced character development, a romance forward plot, or are going to get mad at the FL for putting her comfort first, making mistakes, and suffering from PTSD from a literal war, this is not for you, because that isn't what this story is supposed to be about.
I have enjoyed seeing how each of the characters have become a product of their environments. The FL, after having a desperately poor childhood becomes motivated only by saving her own neck and living comfortably. The prince, who through foreshadowing
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
clearly was not supposed to be all sunshine and honor (so no, it wasn't a bad plot twist like some people are complaining because it wasn't meant to be a twist), is this way because of the nature of being a paladin (where he has the blood of so many people on his hands) and being a prince (where he has to constantly keep his wits about him to secure his position and therefore be constantly on edge to not die)
. Overall, it's psychological rather than a thrilling plot, but not too deep that it gets oppressive, convoluted, and overly depressing.
The only critique I have is that I'm not sure why it's an Isekai. The FL's previous life is barely mentioned (that she was a student working on an assignment and got run over) and has no barring or effect on her current actions. The main driver is her childhood in her new life, where she starved in the streets as an infant. The story could have just started with that.

Great art! Boring character development…

The FL is soooo annoying. She’s honestly pathetic and the only thing keeping this at a 5 rating is the artwork. Illustration is beautiful, but storyline and character development is lackluster at best. Nothing makes sense and all they do is go back and forth about fear. Unfortunately, the development falls short of illustrating “fear” in any sense of the word and instead instills an annoyance in me about how pathetic all the characters are. The Prince is painted as this sketchy character, but I actually tolerate his character more cuz at least he HAS character. The FL and ML are so flat, it’s irritating reading the storyline.

Strong non romantic plot, entertaining action, and I absolutely love the pacing for the romance. But the strongest point of this story is the art. I'm not talking about the details of frilly dresses, and the huge splattering of flowers shoujos use to cover up laziness. Its the nice clean lines and subtle shading to make some REALLY handsome / beautiful characters. The two MLs are both ... noice!

Where is the seriousness and depth you people are talking about ? I’ve read 20 chapters and I’m just bored out of my mind. Everything is extremely shallow, the characters, the plot, the take on the war, the world building...
The female lead is unremarkable and forgettable, and the male leads dull and unoriginal.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Even the twist for the blond one was predictable.

The story has no direction, the chemistry between the characters is very weak, and the psychology/trauma about the war is superficial. I just can’t get into this story.
The art is fine though.

I've just finished reading the first season and I'm not really sure how I feel about this story. But, all things considered, I think this is an okay manhwa.

Priestess Renesha, the FL, is a pretty interesting main character. She accepts to join the "war" with a neighboring country simply because of the reward money. Along the way, she gains a better understanding of the horrors of war and starts to develop a better understanding of herself and her powers. She's funny, and she doesn't really complain much (except for when she's hiking a mountain lol).

The two male leads are said to be heroes who slay enemies as easy as breathing, but we baaaarely get to see them in action. Most of the time when they show up (Prince Elviniraz in particular), it's only to comfort the Priestess and nothing else. And for that I must say I'm still not sold on any of the two male leads.

The plot so far is fairly easy to follow, no unexpected twists and turn. Very predictable at times. Hopefully more complicated things will happen in the next season.

The art is very pleasing to the eye, and it definitely helps lighten up the mood of the story.

Now, I've got a few questions/doubts:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
1. The Empire wants to conquer its small, neighboring nation. To get there, they have to (literally) climb mountains. Along the way, they get ambushed a lot.

Gee, I wonder why??? Maybe it's because the Paladin Knights' uniforms are blindingly white and they walk in broad daylight? Or perhaps it's because they move in large numbers, which makes it easier for the enemy to locate them?

They might as well bring a banner that says "Ambush me!"

If they really wanted to minimize casualties, they could at least wear dark cloaks or something, or march at night when they could easily use the trees and the darkness for cover.

2. The FL mentions multiple times how tired the healers are during the war, and how slow their divine powers replenish the further they are from the temple. My question is, can't they just ask for reinforcements? I know the characters keep saying that it's not a real war, but they do get ambushed often. Surely the Empire could afford to send five or ten additional healers, using the teleportation scrolls? Especially considering how prosperous the Empire is.

3. They're marching in the middle of the day again. Instead of staying vigilant 24/7 (since they just got ambushed) and lead his knights safely to camp, Prince Elviniraz, the Leader of Paladin Knights, chooses to stay back with the girl he likes to help her hike the mountain. Imagine if his knights were ambushed while he's somewhere far behind them, busy talking with the FL? I still don't understand his decision and I legit don't see how he's a good Commander.

It baffles me because so far this manhwa has tried so hard to prove how bad and horrible war is through the FL's pov, and yet the author decided to overlook all these (in my opinion) important details. Why?

Reads like an excellent, well written, introspective psychological novel with comedy and romance fluff on the side

I usually don’t rate when a work is unfinished, but this manga has left me with a strong impression, that I can’t help but leave a comment on this excellent piece just so others can enjoy this just as I did:

Just a quick summary... You can read this and breeze through the manga like a well written entertaining regular shoujo about a girl and two guys vying for her attention, but look further and closer, and you will appreciate how in depth the characters, plot, pace and the seriousness and introspectiveness of the storyline of this manga/first season is done.

As of this writing, I’ve completed the first season, and what began in the first chapter with an impression of a seemingly “teeny bopper, formulaic shoujo type, Isekai romance manhwa” has, by ten chapters in, has torn down that notion into pieces as the author fleshes out the main female protagonist into a full blown human with all its misplaced confidence and insecurities, materialistic self serving conviction, unassuming strength and unexpected weakness. And that’s just the female lead.

The male leads (two of them) are initially introduced as if borne of stereotypes, but although they are not yet fully fleshed out by the end of the season, you have an impression that they are organic moving pieces with their own personalities and independent thought processes. They add to an excellent psychological banter with the female lead, and lets us readers wonder about our own reactions when faced with the same situation as the lead.

At this point you might have an impression that the manga is very heavy and dense, but fortunately the author is skilled in juggling daily interactions with the overall heaviness/consequences that are as a result of the plot. The balance between heavy and light sections might not perfect, but it is still very well done. There are light hearted, comedic moments that don’t feel out of place just right before or after something existential... lolz I honestly cannot imagine using this word on a manga that had a main premise of the girl confessing her feelings to the wrong party, but the word belongs perfectly right here in this review of this book.

I’m looking forward to the next season, have great hopes for the author. 🙂

The scene in the description happens wayyyy after (although for me the story isnt that slow tho. the speed is average) but I like how the author created a sufficient background story for the mc and the ml.

Fair warning: it takes a long while for the plot to reach the point that is advertised in the description.I personally found this a bit off-putting when I first picked it up but in retrospect, I think it was a good decision to bait in readers (including me) and then dish them a rich plot instead..
The main character is cute, fairly smart and funny and grew on me quickly. The story is a lot deeper than the description might have you think.
Art is gorgeous.
