Hating on a Great Series

This manga really surprised me, i mean i did see a high rating and good reviews but i was still pretty skeptical of it but after the first chapter you become really curious where its going then you get hooked. I love the premise of "ranking up" or evolving and the RPG style of this manga. Also once i learned this concept is when i understood what the title pic was and it made me really look forward to when it happens and beyond. I really have high hopes for this now and i really hope im not let down

Update: Honestly i still love this manga and the MC is one of my favorites, i love his do "whatever the hell i want" mentality. Plus how tactical and ruthless he can be. This is a pretty great RPG manga to me. I of course know its not for everyone considering its structure but its great still. People are complaining that it has no story cause it have a Diary type of walk-through in its chapters but thats just a different and interesting take on this manga.The most complaints i hear come people who are just too cynical from watching alot of other stuff to give this a true chance, or people who demand perfection or people who cant stand something doing something different. Just drop it already if its not your cup of tea instead of bashing it cause its obviously good with others.

Scratched the surface

4 chapters, in just 4 chapters this manga became one of my favorites in 2014. it introduces many interesting and exciting concepts, while the concepts may not be original but the combination of them makes it something we never seen before.

The protagonist is reborn as a goblin and is required to survive with almost no help, he is likable and there is more to him than your usual shounen guy, there is a room for huge character development for each of the main characters introduced.

The idea of gaining a new abilities rapidly is exciting but the huge number of them can be overwhelming and forgotten by the time the next chapter arrives, thankfully the important ones are engulfed in your mind.

The most interesting concept by far is ranking up, ranking from goblin to alternate more advanced creature, and by having more than one route it really opens a way for readers to guess which one he would take.

Overall this is my first impression of the manga and I very pleased by it, as it is rare to find something exciting these days for me.

This works pretty well as a manga so far. The art is good, the pacing is appropriate and the story has potential. That said, I am not to certain about the story's future.

After reading the manga, I checked out the light novel...

The protagonist struck me as a mary sue.

He never loses a battle, he gained more powers than the X-Men combined, becomes richer than a small country and he gets a harem which he has sex with everyday. The main conflict has more to do with how he justifies his actions regarding killing, mind breaking and raping. Even this is not much of a conflict as there are no arguments, just internal monologues. Needless to say that this series is not for everyone.

The manga has made a good start but it has its work cut out for it if it wants to transcend the novel.

Wish Fulfillment at it's Best

I haven't read the novel and have no plan to, so you won't see any details here other than that related to the manga itself.
This manga is at it's core wish-fulfillment, in that like previous mentions is what a rpg gamer wants out of his game. Slowly leveling up, gaining new abilities, fighting bigger and bigger monsters, getting the girls, interacting with npc's...you get the list, it's all here.

There seems to be a lot of confusion to the fame of this manga, and honestly its quite simple. Many people picture themselves as the protagonist and thus going through a journey in this heavily narrated tale is like doing it yourself. The story obviously won't go down as the next Romeo and Juliet, but it's simple and detailed enough to fully immerse yourself in the world.

This honestly breaks the mold in manga and novels (fantasy ones), with a gary sue like character. It's almost impossible to find a character that wins a battle because he just that good, it's always an ass pull, lame as training for a specific attack that he'll do that one time or sometimes when the author can't think of anything else: plot armour saves them.
One major problem though with these kind of characters (gary sue), is boredom - predictability. So far, it's just been setting the scene for the rise of the goblins, so we haven't encountered the problem yet, but when we do get to it, I'd like to see how it's dealt with.

I don't like calling people out, but the review by Immortal bear is filled with so much malice that I can't over look it.

The goblins are a weak race and any resemblance of strength comes from Rou (from formations to training)
Golbins don't gain powers by eating things, that's what makes Rou special
We have yet to see what Rou's backstory has to do with his current life, so we can't say it has nothing to do with the story
Rou is not a twisted character, he doesn't eat the flesh because he likes it, he does it out of necessity (he needs their powers). The parts where he ate the women that golbins rape is not shown, further showing the obvious disdain from the act the author and in extension Rou has for it
There have been no sex scenes of yet
I agree that so far some of the side characters are kind of 1-dimensional, but for every character you show that is one dimensional here I can show you 20 from a plethora of other mangas
It's kind of obvious that the girls would fall for him, he's just that strong, handsome and a great guy. I've seen shallower relationships form in real life, my mate and his perpetual need to swat away the amount of girls that are in love with him is testament to it

TL;DR if you don't understand why this appeals to such a large audience and rakes them in, then the human psyche isn't something you understand.

Curiouser and curiouser

It's a somewhat interesting about a resurrected human into ogre clan (?) and he struggle to power up. Kinda like your standard fantasy game, but your character is a basic ogre and your starting village is ogre tribe. I dont know Japanese so I can only guess.

EDIT: Thank god for speedy scanlation scene nowaday. Not even 24 hours passed before I get introduced to this series and 1st chapter is out. Yay~

its not everyday u come across a manga that stands out. its similar to the "gamer" another great read in terms of its game/reality concept but its core stories are completely different but what makes them even more similar than the game/reality concept is watching the MC's progress throughout the story what new abilities he obtains and the curiosity of how powerful will he get.

This manga get my MOAR!!!! SEAL of approval...

I highly recommend this manga. its a really great and refreshing read. sadly its only up to the 4th chapter but I've read the LN up to the 38th day and if the manga truly follows the LN than you can expect some epic battles, new enemies, a ton of new and powerful abilities and a lot of change within the goblin community but if you cant wait for the next chapter i suggest you read the LN

Disappointing in the long run

In the beginning the MC seemed principled. He did what he had to, to become stronger in a dog-eat-dog world.

However, I've reached the point in the series where he's finding strong people to eat, just because they're strong. They haven't done anything to him yet, but their strength puts them on his menu. He's already incredibly OP, so it's not like he even needs strength anymore. He's just straight up become the villain at this point.

Which is fine, if you want a villain protagonist. But that's not how the series started, and it's disappointing to see this become yet another OP-villain-MC story.

Unique protagonist

This series is so amazing , it has unique plot and unique characters , its potential is far greater than any manga , the reason i am saying this because i am not judging it with just 4 chapters , i read the Light Novel a bit further , though there is no group doing it , some fans are are translating (which i appreciate them) , it is still amazing , the protagonist is the kind of protagonist i always wanted to see in every manga ever since Guts (berserk) , he's unique ,

A lot of people does compare this to Gamer , I'll tell you , this is like a real survival manga, people die or eat each other and it is not lighthearted like Gamer , it is real .

Middle of the pack

As many have said, this is a typical self-insert power fantasy isekai, and heavily narrated. Nothing inherently wrong with that at the onset. However, it becomes, in my opinion, very trite and repetitive. Quickly, you will lose track of which powers the MC has and find it weird that he continues to search for more.
This manga takes several interesting tropes and settings from its peers, and waters them down to be the most bland as possible.
Seriously, there is an over-saturation of abilities, powers, skills, and magic. So much so that it is ridiculous. Instead of a handful that the MC has to get creative with, which expands one's imagination and the author's creativity, we instead get a product that seems like the author just went down a list of D&D spells and X-Men powers and gave the MC everything that seemed cool.

In all reality, I think it may have been more enjoyable for me had I read chapters 1--20ish, then skipped to chapter 50 or whenever he meets the princess. That's where the story actually solidifies to something other than power creep.
Also, the food commentary, that is played for laughs, gets super old really quick

Novel disguised as a manga..

I want to point out two things. First, I am an easy to please individual when it comes to stories, especially isekai/reincarnation. Second, even if I gave it a five, I quite enjoy the story. The main reason I gave it a five, is because I feel this manga is a diary. As a sidenote.. man girls in these universe fall easily for his charm XD I think his skill for getting all the girls must be one of the most OP out of any manga/anime main character I can remember.

First of all I want to point out something: I do not dislike the story. I do not feel appalled by the rape content, mostly because it is not highlighted, not to mention it does not show or explain it, afar from some comical looking "sounds" that make you imagine some lewd stuff happen in the background. This is nothing like Berserk for example, where it made me skip ahead pages, just to not get unhappy by it.

So, the main and maybe even the only reason I gave it a 5, is because this does not feel like a manga. It is like a hybrid of a novel with manga, that lacks dialogue. The 99% of the scenes just have a dialogue box, which is the MC explaining What is happening in the scene we are looking at. Actual dialogue between characters is rare to the point I started making fun of the thought that this will ever become an anime, where a narrator would be the one mostly talking.

25 chapters in and I find it interesting, as just any other Isekai with a generalized story. I do not feel bored of it and I do not think currently I want to drop it, but my point stands. I just feel I am reading a novel, where there are pictures attached so you can help your imagination shape easier, while the dialogue of the people does not matter. If someone asked me what type of manga this was, my answer would be;

A diary.
