Description
From DramaQueen:
Blinded in a freak accident, Kai’s vision is restored years later through a corneal transplant. His new eyes, however, can’t seem to focus on his family or girlfriend. They are instead drawn to Hizuki, his surgeon.
Is it because of the doctor’s alluring scent, which Kai finds strangely familiar? Or could it be because the transplanted corneas last belonged to Hizuki’s lover...?

I did not like this manga because of the simple fact that the story was far too rushed for that kind of theme. One of the main characters was blind and healed/helped/restored by a surgeon, so far so good. However, Kai (the formerly blind) falls in love with him without any kind of reason behind it except....his scent. Like what? Really? Moreover...
Also, Kai was too cruel to his ex girlfriend, which made me in turn dislike Kai. A lot.
Conclusion: This manga is a mess and I do not understand the high ratings.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I did not get any confirmation nor closure about how the surgeon actually felt for Kai? I got the feeling that he was a replacement for his old lover and nothing proved me otherwise except maybe when he started missing Kai...a bit...and then chased after him towards the end. However, wasn't that because he was lonely rather than doing it out of love?
Also, Kai was too cruel to his ex girlfriend, which made me in turn dislike Kai. A lot.
Conclusion: This manga is a mess and I do not understand the high ratings.

So the main story of this manga somehow contains much less credibility and chemistry between the couple than the last side story, which ironically is about one of the main characters' past with another man. I've got not much to say here, since I've come across countless similar average mangas to this one, especially when it's full of awkward dialogues and confessions that are no where near believable enough for a BL veteran such as myself. But I do have say once again that I actually quite like the last story, and the fact that it happened in the past somehow made it even more special, as it leaves the readers with a bittersweet sensation of longing, compared to the cliched main story that people'll surely forget about as long as they finish it.

Of all this author's work, I like this one the best. The art is really nice and unlike some of her other works, this one is easier to follow. You can tell which dialogue belong to which characters, and the emotions shown on the characters face also matches the dialogue. That aside, this manga is really emotional especially the last chapter with the flashback. I really enjoyed reading this manga and would recommend it to others too.
This mangaka is really good at plot. All of her manga that I read so far all have plot driven theme, and they all kept my interest to the very end. I also recommend her to people who enjoy yaoi with plot.

What can I say? I really like the relationship that developed between the dude and his optometrist. The girl was really mean though. She really made me mad, I couldn't believe she had the gall to think she was better than him when she got him back. She was too mean. She deserved to cry in that snowed up corner and stuff lol. But the chapter where the past was told through the optometrist's late lover made me so depressed afterwards. :/ right when the optometrist started to treat his lover right boom he fucking died so sad :"(
Liked the past more than the present...

I've read this a long time ago and don't know if it was because I was too immature to understand it or maybe I didn't think like that because I didn't even remember this story, but it's freaking good!
What I think it's beautiful about this is how Kai gives everything up for Hizuki. He's not sure whether or not he loves him, at first, but is still willing to be by his side because he can't bear to see him suffer. It's almost as if he loves him so much, he can't see his sorrow, even if he doesn't know the reason. I kept thinking about the whole situation and came to new conclusions time after time. Like, Kai had no certainty that Hizuki would be with him even if he followed him, but he still did, no matter if he could lose everything. He couldn't go back to Miharu because he didn't love her anymore, even if she would've accepted him.
BUT! I don't believe in love at first sight. Sorry, I just don't. So this story isn't as convincing for me as it may be to more fantasy-driven people, so I can't rate it the highest.
As for Miharu, she feels evil to me since the beginning, almost as if she planned it all... She was smiling when she was telling Kai about how she convinced Hizuki to keep a part of his friend alive.
Though I liked this manga, I have a few complaints. For starters, an art-related one: why the hell did Kai change his hair cut?! He looked so much better with the old one! I'm sad. And it makes the meaning of the story less impacting, because Kai looks exactly like Hizuki's lover, besides from having a similar personality too. It would've been more original if he was totally different from him - physically and psychologically.
And the dialogues - rather, the order of events - were a bit confusing at parts.Though Hizuki refers to Sugiura as "a friend", Kai keeps saying "his lover" and it was't very clear for me until the last chapter. Other than that, Hizuki doesn't say he loves Kai, until he suddenly declares he fears for his happiness the more he loves him. Since when? And what's even more strange is that Kai doesn't have any reaction to that, like he already knew he was loved. Makes me wonder if it's a translation mistake.
But what bugged me the most was how the author tried to make it longer than it should be - probably due to popularity - and it became just a little too much of that lovey-dovey thing. It should've ended with chapter three, because, you see, Ebihara-sensei even had to create a new conflict in order to continue it. I know it's tempting for mangaka to rely on the title's success, and people even like this sweet and commonness, but then it becomes just one more, not remarkable. So, unfortunately, this remained my stronger opinion about Allure. It's not like I didn't like the chapter, because I did. I just think it wasn't necessary.
As for Sugiura's and Hizuki's past, I loved it. I cried my heart out and liked it even more than the main story. That is what remained remarkable for me, the kind of story that messes up with my mind.
Another problem - that isn't the mangaka's fault - are the scanlations to this manga. They were really lousy, with pages in the wrong order and a lot of spelling mistakes. Here at Baka Updates too: chapters 2, 3, 4 and 5 are missing here, and yet it's in the "completely scanlated".

This manga is all about emotion. I love the story- this is the first time I have read Ebihara Yuri's work, but now I'm definitely seeking out her work.

Allure is one of those mangas where you have to pay close attention to the story to keep up with some of the intuitive leaps the mangaka wants you to make with the plot (and hairstyles, they change dramatically throughout). But I feel the close attention pays off, especially at both the end of the story and in the bonus story after it. I had doubts when I first started reading it, that the story would be too simplistic, but it improved with each chapter, and I think I'd like to read more from this mangaka. This story can be so sad at times that it makes me want to cry, but is such a romantic story at the same time that i supressed it. I keep repeating myself with sensei but the art is just so amazing that i cannot get enough of it too.
