Fullmetal alchemist + black lagoon = mixed bag
by red-eyed-slayer

When I read the series I like the concept and the idea of mixing fullmetal alchemist with black lagoon is pretty interesting. I felt it had a pretty good start and nice amount of mystery such as the bodyguard and escorts mysterious powers. My problem was how the series never further establishes reasons for many things such as the male protagonist reason in hiding his identity, the sisters, alex's sudden character changes and even sayuri's one as well. This series contradicts itself at times and have plot holes even though it uses logic in some of its battles giving off a pesudo intellectual vibe. As the reasons for war from some of the characters were asinine and does not tackle the themes of war well Fullmetal alchemist tackles it better. The final battle was very insulting to some readers intelligence
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I mean Simon could use language grave to summon abilities but if two people have language grave shouldn't that nullify the abilities as having 2 people will cancel each other out which the author couldn't even keep that consistent with juri defeating kotonoha with that line of thought so which is it.

Another thing I want to add is the series reason for the mc's victory in the final battle it talks about conviction because he has a reason to win, but simon should have a reason satisfying curiosity is a form of conviction though not lofty it is still a form of desire or even winning against someone should be a conviction as it gives self satisfiction. Now if the mc said his goals were not grandiose or something like that then that would be better than the current reasoning but would still need work

I think this is why i have disdain for some NOT all shonen writing at times because i feel like it is used as a shield to accept poor writing but some shonen series put the effort and care in writing something well like hxh for example.

Overall I was very disappointed as the author just gave up and call it a day and started giving weak reasoning for not just the final match but other things as well.

Pretentious and hard to read
by Seregosa

Rating: 3.0  / 10.0
What's up with this edgy, childish, pretentious and cringeworthy manga? After a single chapter, I already knew what to expect. Seriously, he's obviously way over 50(given the students he's got and his backstory revealed later on, it seems like he's probably easily 60+ years old) but looks like a 10-12 year old boy(I'm serious, he looks like a middle schooler at most, probably younger, the top of his head barely reaches up to the chest of these japanese high school females so I guess he must be 120-130cm tall at most, although his height sometimes seems to vary as he can sometimes reach up to their necks, the author is just that bad at drawing consistent heights...). The whole personality change thing of the girl is stupid and their acute awareness of that they're just mere additional personalities makes things very weird, she's speaking as if she's an A.I. program or something, not another personality. The way everyone just pops up is really ridiculous, how we're thrown into some kind of conflict instantly and it just happens to be people he knows or even trained. It's even more weird because he acts out the role of a typical shounen protagonist normally and has a kid loving and doting on him.

It just feels so damn stupid and forced. Even the drawings are edgy and pretentious, as if some youngster drew what he thought looked "cool", but it really isn't cool and just looks overdone and weird. It's trying so very hard to satisfy the wish fulfillment of younger audiences that it becomes painful to look at. Perhaps the ones who'd like it the most are people who is as young as the mc looks, about 10-12 year olds. It's packed to the brim with stuff that they might enjoy. Even the supernatural powers are things that just seems idiotic in my opinion but I can imagine a youngster liking powers about dead/lost languages and scribbles("tattoos"😉 which gives you powers for no good reason and voice or special eye powers like numbers in your eyes that can control everything as if it was computer language(you know, 1111100011101011101 that type of on-off thing). Totally seems like something you'd see someone afflicted with chuunibyou play pretend with. People also talk way too much in the middle of battle to try to look cool, usually stopping their actions and just standing there chatting like buddies before doing one or two attacks and then separating again to repeat the routine until one collapses or dies.

I read it to the end out of boredom but I somehow ended up even more bored. Even the conclusion is childish.

Overall, it's a manga that made me disappointed in almost every way possible. Unless you're an adult who's a kid at heart or if you're actually a kid, you won't enjoy this much. There are just too many flaws and it's hard to even look at. There are so many better manga out there, just look for them unless you just don't care about flaws like these or perhaps thinks that they're pros.

Seriously...
by Lost Rabbit

I was pretty excited around the time the first chapters were released for this series. I figured that it was something I could have some fun with, but somewhere along the way, I stopped enjoying the series so much. Aside from poor-pacing and the author's habit of making some things seem so overly-dramatic, I guess the main thing that I don't like is how the story handles its supporting characters: The only two people that I see doing nearly all the work/fighting is the protagonist and the heroine, and in that regard, it seems the characters have to be either Master Class or have "language-related" powers to be of any use/pose as a very serious threat. Otherwise, they're just hanging around to make the main character look more and more like some totally awesome "bad ass" all the damn time.
http://www.mangahere.co/manga/gun_x_clover/c026/2.html

At one point, two of the supporting characters had to take on an inhumane villain. [There's their chance to prove that they're strong without the protagonist!] The bad guy turned out to be pretty strong though, the two supporting characters had realized how weak they were all along, and just when things seem "hopeless," protagonist shows up to save the day right on cue. BUT WAIT! Instead of having a serious brawl with this sadistic villain, our protagonist is thrown at the bad guy (by an additional supporting character) and knocks him out instantly for comedic purposes. What a wonderful waste of an opportunity...

[Sidenote] I wish the author could someday explain why the protagonist still looks like a young boy, yet he happens to be really really old. Like, this old:
>Supporting female character: "I want your genes! That way, we could have the strongest children ever with our specialties combined!"
>Protagonist: "Oh man, I remember when your Mom said the same thing to me, way before you were born."

Update (11/27/15):
So it's been over a year since I wrote this original comment/review, and I gotta admit it has improved as for giving the side characters a proper chance to do some fighting; however, it still managed to end another fight with a dumb gag once again. That doesn't hold the series down entirely, but at the rate it's been released, it gets frustrating when chapters are wasted on fights that end up that way.

And that's one of the big issues currently: The series feels like it was meant to be weekly/biweekly with the handfuls of allies and enemies and other characters all introduced at a certain point, but it's taking forever to get to them all. I think only an eighth(?) of them have been "focused on," and there'll probably be even more new faces along the way as well, so I'm concerned at how much this series will be stretched out till it's possibly axed. After all, author gave such a poor ending to his previous series (Shinigami-sama ni Saigo no Onegai o) that was axed, so I wouldn't be surprised if it happened once again with this one. Let's honestly hope not...

I like it, BUT

I like the plot because the protagonist is already strong from the start. I also like how he is strong and doesn't try to show off or get cocky, BUT I don't like a few things about this manga.

The author tries to make the plot serious and dark, but fails at it. You can't take this manga seriously even with the blood and some killing depicted in the manga because of the characters. I also don't really like the plot about the multiple personality.

Overall, it's a good read, but I don't see this manga lasting that long with where the plot is leading right now.

Am really glad to find this manga, it brought me to learn of my favorite genres, all the main characters are to my liking, the service is a satisfactory and the low-profile romance is just right.
The twists, suspense, comedy, mild and surprise factors all together mix into a splendid work.
Although there are quite weaknesses in the story altogether, it deserves up to a tenth chance to improve, yet no matter how it ends sooner or later, THIS WILL ALWAYS BE A MUST READ!

It's quite rare for a manga to grasp my interest this strong. This is surprisingly good, I wonder why isn't it famous already? There are shorter and some less frequently translated mangas with similar setting and genres that have already broke fame.
Readers could see the author was at disarray at the beginning, the story was jumping on all directions and really hard to predict yet, it was also fun. It felt like my interest were growing along the authors own artistic sense evolution. It made me feel... close to the story which grew better by every chapter.
A similar manga to this one would be Kurenai, which is without doubt a an S-class favorite of mine, it feels right comparing them to every extent.
It's a shame the translation is slow but am also grateful for every chapter translated. Mangas like this makes it worth being a fan just to find, even without anyone's recomendation, it felt like my luck finally paid me big.
Perfect score for not a single complain.

Rage inducing turd of a manga. Best to be locked away in your vault for infamously infuriating mangas.
Basically NONE of the characters matter except for main hero guy and his war-seeking lolibitch former master. EVERYONE else are merely withered dressing for this plate of dry, overcooked turkey of character and plot design.

Hell with this shit. I'm done.

The author tries too hard to create drama and ends up with a mess of a story. It's not so bad with the overall plot but the chapter stories are pretty terrible. Also, the ranking system used for the fighters is worthless given how Morito abuses it.

at first i didnt expect much from this especially because of the authors history but this is a really great manga so far and i hope it gets better and last long. the main character is very sadistic and cool and i love how it contrasts with his appearance, the art is really great, and the story is really interesting with a good amount of mystery and things to look forward to (like the other 11 instructer ranked mercs). all in all i definitely was surprised by this and am looking forward to this manga

I read the first 3 chapters and found the main character's background to be a bit convoluted, but yet interesting. The main female interest, the one with multiple personalities, seems a bit overboard but let's wait and see what happens. I mean, she alone is like a 7 girl harem. Artwork is is well done and storyline, so far, isn't half bad.
