It’s Fun Adventure

To be honest, at first, I wasn’t at all excited about this since it felt like reboot but I actually love it. It’s a fun adventure story and I appreciate the space elements as well as the chance to see similarly styled characters with new motivations as well as dynamics.
It’s his story, his characters, what’s wrong with reimagining and creating something new? There are similarities, obviously, but it’s still fun to read. If you enjoyed his other works, check this out too.

wansmor's review is spot on but wanted to add a few details.
This feels more like One Piece than Fairy Tale. I have a feeling he wanted to move away from "guild this" and "guild that" and just wanted his characters to explore more... so he ran with the One Piece temple. Instead of hunting for One Piece, it's now Mother. Instead of hopping from one island to another, it's one planet to another. There's some obvious character similarities to FT characters but I don't think it's stagnating the plot or making it too predictable if you've read it before.
Also a ton of ecchi. If you compare it to One Piece's say 3, it's dialed to a 6 or 7. It's not the crutch of the story but there's lots of panels devoted to showing skimpy outfits and cloud covered nakedness.
All in all, the quality isn't bad (if you enjoy a higher dose of ecchi in your mangos). Doesn't deserve those 1s which I'm guessing is from people not liking Mashima in general. I'm going with wansmor and giving it an 8 as of chapter 77, but expecting it to drop to 7 in the future.

Although many people bash Mashima for all his flaws on FT, I have to say that he is good at starting a new one. Initially I had doubts on Eden Zero because of Shiki's "befriending" nature and his characters template, but even so, Mashima is able to build an interesting story around the seemingly old concept of his.
So Edens Zero is basically adventure in space. Shiki, the lead, is an adopted son of "Demon King" (he looks like a robot - a major background character that is often mentioned). He was previously inhabitating a planet of automatd amusement park, until, he met with Rebecca, a streamer (typically our twitch/ youtube star) came to the planet. After a brief incident, they finally starts traveling together. Along the way, they pick up new alies and find the ship Edens Zero (late Demon King's mothership) as they travel from one planet to another.
Personally I think Edens Zero has started the way Fairy Tail did, basically dragging me in with curiosity with what Mashima has in store for Shiki and co. His fan service is still there, it is part of his work anyway. Basically if you like FT or Rave and still want to see more of Mashima's work, this is a good try. Just don't hope it to become a long running sophisticated story like OP, and you're good to go.
Rated 8 for starters, though perhaps 7 would be safe bet for long run.
