From Viz:
Yoshimori couldn't care less about catching demons. Until he realizes that his apathetic attitude is taking a toll on his friendship with Tokine. Just as he decides to take matters into his own hands, a couple of amphibious demons and the pesky ghost of a pastry-chef show up to complicate matters.

Unlike many others, I didn't mind the "slow" start. I place an emphasis on character depth, and I didn't find the first parts boring at all because of the time taken to draw a good, realistic portrait of the characters, complete with little idiosyncrasies aplenty.

And then when the plot, intrigue, and action take off--it becomes an explosive and compelling ride. If you're set on the typical shounen plot lines of training, power-ups, and progressive battling build-ups, this probably isn't for you. I enjoy the insertion of realism into this supernatural setting, however strange that may sound. You won't see magical weapons, godly techniques, or wise masters popping up before every major fight to impart some new power to the protagonists. It's mostly sweat, hard work, perseverance, and trial-and-error.

Love the tidbits of romance that don't take over the kickass battle art and political tug-of-wars!

Ok, and yeah, I love love love all the random monster design 8D At least I saved the shallowest reason for last, right 😕

It's one of this mangas who are made for everyone, normally i don't like mangas where a sidestory follows an other endlessly, without coming to the point. Like detectiv Conen, one Peace... such series are only made for anime (in my opinion). But Kekkaishi is a must read deffenetly! The jokes are in my taste, the art is good and the plot is awsome!!!!

Try to read it, and you will regret that you lived until yet without Kekkaishi!!!

I found this to be an excellent manga. It kept me interested the whole way, and I found the plot easy to follow, with layers of stuff that you could look into. I saw a lot of comments ragging on the ending and I seriously do not understand that. The ending was quite acceptable considering how the story worked. People who complain about the ending clearly invested too much into the story and should realise there are no perfect endings, and that while the main characters did only get 3 pages, considering that the side cast was just as important, it made sense that they got space as well.

Whats happening at the end?? its it being rushed 😕 everything justt happens really fast!!! Im not sure but it seemed a little incomplete

what happened between yoshimori and tokine; this can`t be the ending, nothing between them wtf why not all the story I was just waiting some progress

kekkaishi is a shounen manga however characters are deep and art is nice also even thought plot sounds like standard a boy who hunts demons with some powers however if it would be just something like that i woudnt bother to comment at all . Strongest points of this manga are realistic characters and hardly predictable story line .( but i dont think that narutards and bleach fans will like a lot this manga because strongest points of this manga are weakest of those two )

Pretty good shounen series. Likeable & interesting characters, funny too, solid art & designs, very good foundation, though it's really hard to tell if it'll become great with only 4 volumes of scanlations availabe atm.
Something I'll keep watching. An anime-adaptation could create better awareness of it too.

Is this seriously the ending of kekkaishi?!?!? cuz if so why even make create it if you're going to make a horrible ending ??? THere was no confession of love between yoshimori and tokine... Yoshimori's drive throughout the whole series was tokine and this is how they ended it ??? ? THe last page of 21 is kinda a tease also... Yoshimori's confession? TOkine's response.... where is this? no where to be seen.. is there a missing page or something? another chapter or is this really the ending of kekkaishi? cuz if so doesnt it make you feel what a load of crap reading all this to see if the 2 would be together and this is the ending we get? >.>

I enjoyed it. Had a nifty story and new stuff I haven't heard before. I just think the ending is not right. Yoshimori had so much power he could have used and while it does show him creating the castle, I thought we would see a great battle with Yoshimori in it. Great battles but could have seen more power from the main character.

This is actually my favorite series. I think everything just comes together perfectly in this series. Great characters, fights, story, and background.

It even has the shinigami as a mascot which was done perfectly as part of the anime when that came out. I wish the anime went on but it ended at the perfect point to end before the manga so that works out. Hope we catch up to Japan in release soon.

I also think that this series is somewhat underrated. I honestly can't think why. The series have potential, with its clear story-telling and good art. Each of the character are being developed, and a lot of the mysteries are nicely woven into the storry. I especially like how there are hints that Tokine has started to grow feelings for Yoshimori. If nothing else, I will read the manga just to know whether they get together in the end.
