I remembered this after seeing the anime cover when Googleling for some anime references. I was firsted introduced to this series threw the anime, but now that I was heavy into manga I wanted to read its manga form.

After finding it I was pleased to see some more information that wasn't in the anime. More characters explained, and background for things that just kinda happened in anime. But I was sad when I saw it only got to the part where Ryner is showed that he is a human, no matter what from Ferris. I know a lot more happens. I was hoping it was all the way scaned so I could finally know what happened at the end of the anime.

However, life is never easy, and as such I will never get to know its ending. So to any scan group just glancing at the comments of this. By some happen chance you are reading this. Even though it has been about 5 years or so. There are people who want to see more.

If you can, please help to finish its scan.

Thank you for reading this.

Unbelievably mundane, pretentious in its writing.

I was hoping much for this manga after reading some of the comments in the manga site I frequented, but was greeted with a very pedestrian manga, plastered with one of the worst character set I have ever encountered.

Let's go straight to the characters, the deal breaker in this manga. This manga is filled with character so pigeonholed to the extreme, so lacking in depth, that it is even repulsive to try to relate to them. The only barely likable character is probably the main character, but even that is stretching it, apart from today's usual shujinko imba super power, there is nothing else to say about him... his endearing trait is his penchant for slacking off, but no, this is not the charming lazy hero... even Shikamaru will look at him and kick him in the nuts.

What about the rest? We have a token companion swordwoman who is dazzlingly pretty (at least in the description) with a.... tsundere side? tsun-tsun-tsun-tsundere? Sadist-dere? screw it, there is nothing dere about her. She is just downright despicable. The best friend has no substance in his character other than being perfect and always smilind and scheming. The osananajimi is just a token loli crossover with team rocket with no personality whatsoever. I could go on, but even describing this far has been a pain for me.

There is nothing much to add, once you notice the characters glaring flaw, the whole manga just collapsed on its own. The plot is vague, unclear and absurd. I've been marathoning to the 3rd volume and it is still unclear where exactly the author is going with the manga. The comedy are cheap and lazy. A lot of drama and gore inserted here and there with no cohesion to the entire theme of the manga that it just felt distasteful and ridiculous.

I can't help but wonder how good the novel is, for it to receive such high review in MAL, and the fact that it received an anime adaptation. Because judging from the manga, this has been abysmal.

I really enjoy this story. It has a good balance of seriousness and humor. I enjoy most fantasy and supernatural stories. I watched the anime first and then read the manga cause the ending of the anime is such that there has to be more. However, the translations on the manga are not as far as the anime. I was hopeful that the manga would complete the story but I found out that it does not, which is a letdown for me, but I still plan to read it through because it's good and has a few good differences within it from the anime. The art style is more dark in the manga than it is in the anime but that isn't off putting to me at all. The story has plenty of depth and is full of people with different ambitions and reasons to align with certain characters no matter if they are considered good or bad and there is always something bigger just beyond our current understanding that begins to take shape as time goes on. It is true that the comedy is dry in many situations... but it's supposed to be that way. It's even worse in the novels. The light novels were hard for me to get into, and felt amaturish... though I think that may be because it is translated by some really nice fans instead of professionals. It would be better if they made more manga or tried publishing the novels professionally in english. However, as it stands now, I have to give this an 8 because it's going to end just like the anime, before the actual ending. I can only hope that we get further than in the anime. This manga has recently become one of my favorites. I cannot wait to read more.

@indolent: The manga is adapted from the novel, which is still on-going and has the huge amount of volumes (around 40 volumes, I guess), this manga, simply put it, is just a begining for the real story starting. I hope there will be another manga adaption for the season 2.
The characters become more and more interesting as the story goes on, even the supporting characters have their problems, perspectives and deveplopments, all of them are good.
I love the hilarious moments in this too ^^

Up to chapter 7 and have enjoyed it so far.

The MC is very capable and easy to get accustomed to. He's not a very interesting character per se, but he fits into the story nicely. The supporting characters bring in their unique flavors in a good way too.

The magic that's portrayed in this setting is one of its strong points IMO. Not too abstract and can reasonably fit in a medieval-ish setting.

The pace, although pretty slow, flows nicely with the introduction of the characters and setting.

The only concern that I have is that this manga is completed with only 9 volumes... so that means only around 28 chapters left?? Right now, it feels like it can still be a huge saga at this current pacing. So either it's going to quicken gradually to a faster (yet still appropriate) pace or get the dreaded rushed ending...
