Description
Munakata is an anthropology professor who studies the relationship between folklore or fairy tales and real historical events. He believes that many of these stories that most presume to be entirely fictional are actually based on real events. This manga tells the story of Professor Munakata as he follows the clues left from both the imaginary world of fairy tales and the real world of historical evidence.

Silly if you think too deeply about it, but still fun.

Professor and friend-of-the-week bumble their way through priceless ruins and strange ceremonies.
Barely looking at the scene before them, the good Professor constantly monologues about how everything that enters his field of vision reinforces a long held theory of his in regards to the matter.
Unlike most researchers who work unceasingly to preserve their discoveries, immediately after Munakata leaves the archeological or biological treasure behind, it's existence is usually accidentally (or occasionally deliberately) obliterated. Usually without even a sigh of regret from the Prof.
The stories are great fun though, and it's an enjoyable, if ridiculous, read.

This is one of the most unique manga I have ever read. It weaves anthropology and folk tales with fiction incredibly well. You cannot take all of the information presented in the manga as accurate, but as a story telling tool, the anthropological references work very well.
