The setting of an all-boy's boarding school is perfect for BL, but even with a great setting and enjoyable visuals, the story of this comic just didn't grab me.
I guess my main problem, which is a pretty glaring one in my opinion, was just how little we get to see of each of the couples. I think I would've greatly preferred reading three different volumes about the three couples introduced in this story rather than the one volume we did get (yes, I know there's a sequel volume, but since it's not listed as the same work it's not going to be rated as if it was).
Even with that glaring problem though, there were things about this comic that I did like!
For example: the paneling in this comic was great. It might just be that the comics I've been reading lately just haven't been that good with paneling, but Sakumoto-sensei's paneling in this work really was quite nice.
The background art was also really nice in this! The character art wasn't my favorite art style ever - not bad but not very pleasing to my sensibilities - but the background art and the environments were really nice to look at! I'm glad Sakumoto-sensei included backgrounds in as many panels as she did because they make the pages much nicer to look at rather than just blank white space for every panel. Even a simple background every other page or so really gets me going, I love me a good background. Seeing as many backgrounds in this as there were made me pretty happy (even if the best of them were mostly just in chapters one and two, but chapter four's got some good indoor shots and the plants in chapter five were nice, so it's not like she stops drawing good backgrounds entirely after those first two chapters).
TL;DR
For a debut comic this isn't all that bad! I've read some of Sakumoto-sensei's other works before according to this site, and looking at their covers it surprises me that Sakumoto-sensei was the creator behind all of these! I wouldn't recommend this comic specifically, it's got a great concept and visuals that I liked, but the story is lacking. If this is your first Sakumoto comic though, I'd say give her another chance to impress you. If my memory serves Sakumoto-sensei's other works were ones that I did enjoy and would stand by, so go check those out instead!
