After the woman he loved got married, Shibu, consumed by despair, came to a seaside cliff searching for a place to end his life. There he encountered a young woman and a couple. The three tried to talk Shibu out of his suicide. They spent a joyful night drinking together in a decaying rental bungalow. But when Shibu woke the next morning, the three had thrown themselves off the cliff. Three suicide notes were left at the scene. Unable to die, Izumoto returned to Tokyo, only to be fired from his job after a week of unexcused absences.
Soon, the apartment manager next door, Reiko Hayana, began frequenting his place because she was having trouble staying in her own room due to a dispute with neighbors over sunlight. Meanwhile, in the apartment next door, sex consultant Koboku was constantly noisy, spending his days and nights having sex. Izumoto's unemployed daily life became increasingly chaotic.
