All visuals, little substance.

I'm really of two minds what I should say about Meine Liebe. Objectively, it had a potentially interesting plot and cast of characters that wanted development, as well as including every romance novel and otome game cliché in the book. We were teased with brief glimpses of some rather fascinating characters, like Ludwig, but they faded out of the picture as soon as their "chapter" were over. Orphe, who is obviously the main lead, had surprisingly little screen time in the first volume and a half, making him feel under-developed. He remained the stereotypical "perfect prince," but we never got to see anything beyond that mask. His relationship with Erika also seemed to drop out of the sky; I really wanted to see a lot more lead-up and not just the "oh, I think I like her!" reaction. The pacing could've been a lot better, too, and the identity of her brother was pretty obvious (although I appreciated the attempts to throw in a few red herrings).

Subjectively, however, I... actually rather enjoyed this. Ha! Shallow characters, relationships and plot aside, this had all the trademarks of an otome game story - five gorgeous guys who are school idols and future political (and society) leaders to boot, and all of them gravitating towards a seemingly normal girl, who is chosen to be one of their aides. It's cheesy, but so, so much fun. The fact that it's set in an elite school and has a European setting is a bonus. It's probably a tribute to Kaori Yuki's character designs that I found all the boys interesting, too, despite the fact that they lacked depth. I suppose that's part of the charm of otome games and reverse harems; they're unrealistic and possibly quite silly, but there's something magnetic about a character being able to interact with multiple bishies of contrasting character types, all of whom are at least kindly towards her. Impossible scenario, but that's the whole point of a story, isn't it? The romance also ended satisfactorily, and the art is lovely.

All in all, Meine Liebe has a huge list of faults, but I think it can still be enjoyable providing you're in the mood for reading something of this type. It won't challenge your brain cells, but it's light, sweet and charming - for those after a nice combination of shoujo/otome game tropes, this might be your thing.

Honestly its a good manga. The story is good and if you are a shoujo fan(like me) you'll get hooked

But for those of you who saw Kaori Yuki's name and thought it would be like her work, it might dissapoint you. Anyway Kaori Yuki only did the character sketches, the actual drawing of the manga was by Izumi rei. Kaori Yuki fans can tell 'cos the art isn't that crowded.

Plain and Cliches

The plot is really plain and full of cliches. I can't understand why they'd been attracted to her even before they had a chance to see her color. "Omg omg I have to find him" she ran here and there and put all her beautiful words, her stuffs about this and that into someone else. Her character is not that unrealistic but alas, I've seen tons of heroines like her. I agree with celinae that "we don't get a lot of detailed characterization for anyone besides the heroine"

In general, I add one more point for all the bishounen/prince charming in the manga.

This manga is really well done, though it's confusing at times. The plot is pretty interesting and dramatic, and I hope we'll find out who Erika's brother is, soon!
Also, the art is really good (done by Kaori Yuki, manga-ka of Angel Sanctuary!), and the characters are pretty interesting, though we don't get a lot of detailed characterization for anyone besides the heroine. Still, a good manga!

I read this because Yuki Kaori made character design. Fatal error! The most stupid reserve harem I ever read. It didn´t even start well, you knew the end from the start.

But I liked one scene: when she falls and that one guy says: "Mata?" (again?) --- INDEED, she is the most clumsy heroine that I ever saw, she falls at every fifth page. Brrrrr. really bad

Predictable

Man, this was one of the most predictable and boring manga I have ever read... Honestly, by the second chapter I already guessed who the brother was going to be, who the main girl was going to fall in love with, who the rival was going to be, how the plot was going to pan out, and this and that. It was just that predictable.
It's probably much more enjoyable if you've played the games and know the characters already.. I don't know how many of you are out there, though.
It was very much just a typical shoujo manga. Nothing more.
Props to the artist for creating awesome bishounen, though. Haha. That's one area they excel in.

My third language is German and that was actually the main reason why i wanted to read this manga.

I really liked all the high-class, elite school stuff that was going around in Meine Leibe because in other shoujo mangas where the girl attends an elite private highschool, it's so modern and it looks too... casual? Something you would say is cliché in mangas but Meine Liebe has a really good setting of a sort of enchanted like school.

I'm gonna say, all five King scholars are bishies (even the one who seems cold at first-haha his hair). Although the main character girl looks pretty but not the most prettiest character that could have suited this sotry (someone with a softer, elegant face-urgh thnking of Tanemura's drawings) I really liked her even more because of that. She's pretty confident in finding her brother, although in some parts of the story she does seem a little helpless, but i think she was acceptable to be cast out from the 'irritating, cliché shoujo characters'.

This manga is a short and sweet romance series that is very pretty and has a flowing story line.
Although i personally would liked to have wanted it to be longer to show her progress with the one she loves ^^ i cant be disappointed that it ended like this because it fitted in very well either way.

A recommended manga to read that is warm and charming (the hwaat guys that is..)

Neverending Traumerei

Having been based on such a great music composition, this manga lives up to the great expectations. I enjoyed Meine Liebe, but felt that the 'prince' could have been warmer towards her, he seemed quite cold, even though he did rather come on to her.

So~ I enjoyed it. A nice pickup. This story is mostly about the girl finding the brother, though in the beginning I already had the feeling it would be that person, and in the end it's really him but the story made it so that you will doubt your premonition, it's enjoyable, the suspense of knowing who the brother is once and for all.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
but I don't get why Ed and Erika are of the same age, and Ed being the older brother but he's born later than Erika. Ed in July, Erika in January and they're both 17. They were said to be half siblings but towards the end it felt like they share the same mother, when the stepmother was scolding them in chapter 10 I think, so the father had relationship with two or three women? *yuck*

Cute.

I think this series would probably be most enjoyable for those who have watched the anime, the reason being that (in my opinion) the Strahl seemed OOC here and the manga does not devote a great deal to their character development, barely touching on what makes them unique.
Those who have watched the anime will of course know who is Erika's brother from the beginning (though it is rather obvious even in the first volume with no prior knowledge), but the story is cute and the art is wonderfully done.
My biggest issue with this series is that it seemed to be one of those stories that was desperately stretched out to four volumes, when I think just two would have been a stretch. There are a ton of "Why didn't Character X do Y?" or "Why didn't Character X just say Y sooner?" moments that would have shortened the manga and made it much more logical. Most unreasonable is that the heroine does not remember her brother's name though she can remember complex conversations she had with her brother.

In conclusion, if you're a fan of the Meine Liebe franchise and don't think too hard about the character's actions, this is a relatively enjoyable manga.
