I'm really of two minds what I should say about Meine Liebe. Objectively, it had a potentially interesting plot and cast of characters that wanted development, as well as including every romance novel and otome game cliché in the book. We were teased with brief glimpses of some rather fascinating characters, like Ludwig, but they faded out of the picture as soon as their "chapter" were over. Orphe, who is obviously the main lead, had surprisingly little screen time in the first volume and a half, making him feel under-developed. He remained the stereotypical "perfect prince," but we never got to see anything beyond that mask. His relationship with Erika also seemed to drop out of the sky; I really wanted to see a lot more lead-up and not just the "oh, I think I like her!" reaction. The pacing could've been a lot better, too, and the identity of her brother was pretty obvious (although I appreciated the attempts to throw in a few red herrings).
Subjectively, however, I... actually rather enjoyed this. Ha! Shallow characters, relationships and plot aside, this had all the trademarks of an otome game story - five gorgeous guys who are school idols and future political (and society) leaders to boot, and all of them gravitating towards a seemingly normal girl, who is chosen to be one of their aides. It's cheesy, but so, so much fun. The fact that it's set in an elite school and has a European setting is a bonus. It's probably a tribute to Kaori Yuki's character designs that I found all the boys interesting, too, despite the fact that they lacked depth. I suppose that's part of the charm of otome games and reverse harems; they're unrealistic and possibly quite silly, but there's something magnetic about a character being able to interact with multiple bishies of contrasting character types, all of whom are at least kindly towards her. Impossible scenario, but that's the whole point of a story, isn't it? The romance also ended satisfactorily, and the art is lovely.
All in all, Meine Liebe has a huge list of faults, but I think it can still be enjoyable providing you're in the mood for reading something of this type. It won't challenge your brain cells, but it's light, sweet and charming - for those after a nice combination of shoujo/otome game tropes, this might be your thing.
