My only qualm is that there's only 3 chapters out. This is a fantastic start and I agree with most of reviews here - nice, clean, attractive art style, three-dimensional characters, and a plot with promising potential. It's got the hallmarks of a love triangle, but it has a slight twist that sets it apart from other love-triangles:
one of them has already confessed way back when.
What I love most about this manga is its characters. Even though the initial meeting between Shinobu and Saijou is a cliche, the WAY its done makes it seem fresh and I had no urges to chuck a book at the wall (read: not a love-at-first-sight ploy). Shinobu is a terrific heroine because she has an interesting personality, strengths and flaws and all. I like that the mangaka presents us with Shinobu's problem, that she has little motivation, and the possible solution to said problem, that she regains her passion for photography through her meeting with Saijou.
The problem with most manga that concentrates on romance is that it fails to develop its characters as people first, before developing the romance. Characters should have likes, dislikes, wishes, desires, problems, etc, things that motivate their actions, and it seems that mangakas forget this crucial point in storytelling 101. It disappoints me to run into mangas that COULD have potential, but because romance is pushed to the front it seems like the characters are just marionettes playing at love. Thank goodness that Kimi wa Kirakira doesn't seem to skimp on this aspect!
Now to check out the mangaka's other works...!
EDIT: Decreased my rating after finding out that it's finished. Too bad, considering it had potential...
