Shizu is freaking hot, lol. Seductive, cool, good character design 👌
Overall, pretty cute, kinda hot, scratches about 20% of the student-teacher itch I have. to be frank, it's pretty trashy, lol.
Shizu's the ideal hot teacher type, wao~ too bad Ikuta is not as endearing. he's a little cute, but mostly kinda annoying, lol. classic tsundere are usually zzz... They exchange some pretty good expressions, though.
btw, it's not borderline immoral, it's definitely immoral. That's why it's hot. :wheeze:

Honestly, Shizu doesn't really have a good reason for ending up with Ikuta. He ain't special. He just drew Shizu's attention bc of his attitude, disliking Shizu, and he thought Ikuta's reactions were cute. ...but that's it. I don't see why their relationship would last. There's nothing profound there, but to be fair, you can say that for most non-fanwork BL 😅 (since they don't usually have room for world-saving or deep plots or anything)

I think it would've been even juicier if Ikuta had genuinely liked that girl more (more angst pls), if Shizu had helped him ponder over that more, and if he had any genuine hatred for Shizu at all, lol. (mm, good love/hate ships are so rare tho) even better if she found out about them ROFL...
Shizu stopping the bathroom guy felt pretty hypocritical 🤣 like bruh you did worse. you're just hot. LOL
Ikuta bursting out with that one line near the end as to his reason for avoiding Ikuta was GOOD. It was so cute! He was so genuine, haha.
I almost wish they snuck around the school more and there were more rumours floating around... would have been very yummy 😂 but I'm a degenerate, so

edit: I JUST OPENED AN ERWIN/LEVI DJ AND ERWIN'S ALSO THE S.S. TEACHER 🤣 WHY ARE S.S. TEACHERS SO HOT?? hotter than math teachers, that's for sure, lmfao...

"Okay" Rating/Borderline "Good" Rating for Me

Sensei Nante Kirai Desu. follows our high school protagonist and uke Ikuta Aoi. In the first chapter, Ikuta is attempting to confess to a girl he likes on the roof of the school. Keyword: attempting. He's so nervous that he starts off his confession with a series of insults, one of which he said the girl wears too much makeup and looks like a matryoshka doll (lol rip). Obviously, the girl gets upset, lashes out at him, and they find out that they were overheard by their teacher, Shizu-sensei, when he laughed at Ikuta's "why are you mad" remark. Obviously, no one would be able to tell that Ikuta was preparing for a confession based on how he began it, but when Shizu-sensei realizes what Ikuta was actually trying to do, he demonstrates to Ikuta how to “properly” confess and ends up sweet-talking the poor high school boy’s crush. After that incident, Shizu-sensei starts calling Ikuta out to help him with errands and the like and the two get a little closer to each other with each meeting, developing this relationship where Shizu-sensei basically flirts with Ikuta and Ikuta reveals that he’s a tsundere.

I don't think Sensei Nante Kirai Desu. is the best yaoi manga out there, but I think I'd rate it as "okay"/borderline "good" because it was an enjoyable read. The story is a bit stereotypical, but I like the trope of a tsudere uke and a teasing seme. No one (important) was annoying either and I enjoyed Ikuta and thought he was cute. Probably because of his blushing faces, lol. The art was nice and perhaps that was one of the main reasons I kept going forward. It's a short 1-volume manga that has 8 chapters (7 main ones and 1 extra chapter), so it'd probably be good for a casual, turn-off-your-brain read. This manga does follow the typical BL formula of noncon/dubcon/sexual harrassment, however. Just as typical, it doesn't take it as a serious problem (or a problem at all), so if you're not into that (no matter how "lighthearted" they make it) then perhaps you wouldn't like Sensei Nante Kirai Desu.
- - -
If you're just looking for the sex scenes, perhaps also look elsewhere. Actual intercourse scenes were short (there were only 2 — 1 in the last chapter and 1 in the extra chapter, both at the end) and the foreplay scenes were more common. I'm not complaining though because I think they were better than the actual sex scenes, lol.

For those people who doesn't like immoral or over the line things go for "SHOUNEN AI" and not for "YAOI' manga.... Shounen ai stories are more on romance, comfort or cliche stories, not violent and not smutty, more like a normal love story, only that the couple are both boys/men, "Yaoi" mangas are more intense cause it focus on everything that can intensified the story- like harassment, violence, sex, immorality and etc...
so when you read a story with a genre as such you should expect those things from the start.

There is not much to this manga. I am not a fan because there is no emotional depth. The sensei is the seducer, and he's always got this obnoxious all-knowing smirk on his face that makes it seem like he's just messing around with this kid for the lols. I'm not a fan of this kind of seme. I usually don't mind this lustful, bullying type of seme, but this kind of arrogant personality needs to be balanced with moments of vulnerability or doubt or any emotional state besides being self-assured and confident. Otherwise, I can't relate to this seme at all. The main couple don't really have any special moments that help them connect emotionally or intellectually with one another. Their relationship is all based on physical attraction, and that can get stale pretty quickly.

That said, why are people complaining about this being a teacher x student relationship? That fact is spelled out in the synopsis. If you don't like teacher X student romances, why did you pick up this manga? That's like if someone read a hentai, then complained about how the women were being sexually exploited. It's dumb.

To the lovebirds arguing in the review/comment section below: It's Yaoi. In Japan it's mostly considered porn for girls, although they don't necessarily use the term "porn for girls" to describe it. Does porn usually have sensible plots full of outstanding literary/imaginative qualities? No, not usually. Some do, but only a rare few when it comes to the yaoi genre.

I agree that the teacher x student stories are cringe worthy. It's pretty much always an adult taking advantage of a student (which is a kid in most cases). However, do I feel entitled to enlighten people about my opinion and practically force them to share my view? No.

By other words, stop taking this shit seriously and accept that different people have different opinions. If you wanna argue about it get a room.

Now to matters involving the manga:
It was an ok read. Nothing original or especially noteworthy. I didn't expect a masterpiece. The seme has the same mentality as a 5-year old kid when he wants to "bully the one he/she likes". Not especially realistic considered that he is an adult. The uke was annoying, too naive and didn't feel like he had a personality.

Hope to read better works from her

I love Hinako's art but unfortunately her plots tend to fall short. The whole story relies on the teacher harassing the student, making him do chores and asking him inappropriate questions and after all that the student suddenly falls in love with him. Tbh it felt more like he responded to his teenager hormones and lust rather than feelings. There was seriously not one redeeming quality to the teacher and they didn't know/learn anything about each other than "he's an annoying teacher" "he's a hormonal student".
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The outrage and the way that other assaulting student was dealt with was just funny at this point. Hypocrisy much? This is what's used to bring the main characters together?

I really hope she ventures into something else, because again, I love her art style.

By the way, it's useless to argue and bring out one's BL credentials, because trash like Koisuru Boukun, Katekyo, etc received high ratings from seasoned BL readers, so I don't find it surprising that this manga will also receive high ratings by these same readers while saying "hey this sh*tty trope is widespread, that means it's ok<3 pls don't criticize!!1".

Quick fun read

I enjoyed really enjoyed this one. I personally adore Hinako sensei and this is another work of hers I had fun reading. This is just your typical BL story with nothing new or revolutionary but if you're looking for a quick fun read then I recommend this title. Especially if you enjoy Teacher x Student stories & Hinako's work in general. Also, the drama CD is well done and would recommend listening to it as well!

I don't now what one would expect when picking up a Teacher x Student story but you have to be prepared for actions that will be crossing the borders of morality, each story with varying degrees. To be honest I read stories like this a decade ago and even reading them today I don't now why there should be any difference or shift. Teacher x Student is a classic cliche that we will be seeing forever (no matter how it'll be re-imagined, written or drawn). Yes from an objective moral stand point what the seme does is illegal and immoral - BUT this is BL at the end of the day. While a story like this wouldn't be published or accepted in most Western countries - this is seen as a fairly normal plot in most manga/novels in Japan. This manga in particular was well received and going though reviews of Japanese readers the only real complaint or issue was that there wasn't much sex scenes.

2006 or 2016 - time period wouldn't make such a difference. A person in a position of power - using said position to attract or get with subordinate or someone in position that is lower (master x servant/teacher x student/boss x employee) is pretty typical classic plot line and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Edit to respond to OmNom

You're free to yell about if you like, you're entitled to your opinion. These Teacher x Student plot lines are VERY common in BL whether you like it or not. How each one is handled is differs by manga ka. Well unfortunately that's something you're going to have to accept seeing, BL isn't immune to "rubbish"

I've read thousands of BL manga, more than most people as I read manga in Japanese mostly - there is no need for me to "widen my horizon" as I've read every kind of BL manga 100x over. This is just one manga in a drop of many with Teacher x Student plot lines... I doubt these type of stories will disappear :/

While you don't want to say your opinion is the most correct you're ready to say most people have shit taste? Okay there.

But whatever, you're free to think whatever you want :/

Borderline immoral

A manga like this could have been accepted as the norm in 2006, but its real year of release is actually 2016, when there's absolutely no possible excuse that can justify how ignorant and problematic it is, and I am not here for it at all.

I don't know what's worst, the repugnant power imbalance between the main characters, the dreadfully awful story full of cheesiness and clichés, the terribly written archetypes of characters completely void of any personality, or the very fact that this is a f*CKING TEACHER abusing authority to (sexually) harass an underaged student and grooming him into becoming infatuated with his own predator? Uhh, I don't know about you but that's the exact type of manipulation I've seen countless times in public-known abuse cases.

All of this horrendous stuff is thinly covered by a disguise so seemingly normal that is the art and the tone of the manga. It's like a shortened version of Katekyo! and all of its atrocious sexual abuse glorification under the pretence of BL all over again. Except that one was written a decade ago and should have been negatively received by now too.

Urgh, I'm so mad just thinking about the fact that the seme even had the audacity to place punishment on the other predator in this manga who's a student with no authority, even though this predator's 1-time offence is not even a fraction of the plethora of criminal actions the seme committed multiple times. Oh but the seme did it in the power of ~love~, therefore it's totally understandable and not creepy or morally wrong or punishable by law at all!

*edit in reponse to Sakura_Hikizaki:

Lol I call BS. Just because a negative trope is heavily overused doesn't mean that it should be normalised and accepted and that readers have to "prepare for" the atrocity that's coming up. It's a terrible trope, and if it doesn't get called out now then when will it?? Claiming that BL is normally full of sh*t like this and that I need to suck it up and live with it is so disrespectful and degrading to the genre. I refuse to see a genre I like littered with rubbish, and I will use every chance I have to speak out against what I deem wrong and unacceptable.

When I said that a manga like this would've been fine in 2006, I meant that there was too much sh*t similar to this back in the day, so much so that not many questions were raised and there wasn't much opposition to the trope. But I like to think that there has been progress made since then and awareness a decade later should've been higher.
I'm not saying that a teacher x student pairing is automatically wrong, it's how it's treated that I have gripes with. What you have here is a teacher roaming about, sexually harassing a teenager, manipulating him into submission, having the nerves to punishment another predator whose crime pale in comparison to his own, and succeeding all of that without any consequences in the end. There are dozens of ways to make a teacher x student relationship work in the moral sense; this is not one of them. If most manga with this type of dynamic that you've read turns out to be the same as this, you're clearly not exposed enough and should broaden what you read (because there are many titles I could think of that dealt with this issue much better) before making such ignorant comments as "this is seen as a fairly normal plot in most manga/novels in Japan".

Also, why are responses from Japanese readers taken as gospel here? I don't even take credible critics seriously most of the time, why should I care for the opinions of some measly BL readers, many of whom honestly have such sh*t taste that it's laughable? I have my own judgement over whether something is good or bad, and I will speak out my views as I see fit. I'm not saying that my preference is more correct than other people's, or that every viewpoint different from mine is wrong. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But other people's opinions are also no more correct than mine, so just because there are some Japanese fans who like this manga, I'm under no inclination to do the same.

Speaking of, immorality is not the only reason I loathed this manga so much. Look at the second paragraph in my original comment, there's much to complain about. Even if the seme wasn't a teacher and a predator, he's still obnoxious as a character and so terribly conceived. Did the uke even have a personality at all, or is the sole purpose to his existence to be molested by and distressed over the seme? If you wanna talk about the story, what story? Did it really have a plot aside from another run-of-the-mil cliché? Take away the sexual predator issue, and all you have left is a bland, boring, unfunny and unromantic 'love story' that I'll gladly pass. Unless if that's your thing, of course, then go for it.
