Tries, but fails
by imercenary
July 4th, 2015, 4:13pm
Rating: 1.0  / 10.0
Lets get the formalities out of the way: Resurrection story, self-aware uber-powered main character, MMO world, 'originally a guy, reborn as a girl'-gender swap story.

Now whats special about this story: Its tries to be different. Rather than focusing on the uber-powered main character, the story focuses on the world aspect by investigating the link between the MMO the MC knows of and the world as it is now.

Or so it should be.

Instead the story falls into the same traps many other web novels fall into. The main character steps into the limelight and immediately hogs the stage.

- An entire town falls into the MC's domain through mere presence.
- Other than establishing the absurd level of power the MC has, the town has absolutely no plot purpose. (The reader is actually given numerical stats comparing the MC to the human characters. Lets just say the MC has a lot more zeroes in his HP/MP.)
- Impending annihilation of said town from rogue monsters is ended by a last minute decision from the MC.
- Oh and this is WITHOUT the MC calling upon his/her personal literally-more-powerful-than-the-MC army.

Gender Bender is pushing it

Because Hiyuki's memories of being a male is almost completely subsumed. Rarely she dimly remember her experience of previous life. So classify this tittle as gender bender is correct, but not 100%. Genderbender hater can read it without worry, I promise.

And yeah, in a sense it's pretty similar with Overlord. The difference is, instead of focusing on the central base and it treasures like Overlord, this series aim outside almost exclusively. in 1st volume, we know more about 1st town than the central base. Without an interlude chapter we might not even know that the castle has a ramen stall run by Orc King. We still dont know much about any human guild-member other than a few titbit here and there.

So yeah, if you like Overlord, but get bored with it later, try this series.

Interesting

I don't know why this series has such bad rating (6.3 of 10 as of 25 May 2015). Probably because:
1. This is another novel with 'reincarnate to game character'
2. Like several other novel classified in point 1, the main character was human male that reincarnate into girl character.
3. The said girl is little girl.

Personally, I like this one. The concept is pretty similar to Overlord, with the main character waking up with a den of monster as underling. But we got a neutral loli vampire instead of skeleton overlord and legendary dragon instead of annoying succubus. The main character does get used to the whole wake-up-into-a-game-thing too fast, but I found the character interesting, even those I don't like as character. For example, Joey, reckless boy who tend to show off. I think its refreshing seeing an underage/ teen character that actually act immaturely instead of strangely mature/understanding children often found in other manga/novel.

Hiyuki as the main character not being the strongest is definitely nice (most of her underling could 1-hit kill her), yet at the same time she's still strong compared to other human. So no shortage of badass moment here. Several + points as there are no pointless filler, harem, and gaps! No a paragraph full description about how good looking a character is.

Not that the novel didn't have any flaw; there is too few translated chapter atm to judge this series as a whole, several cliche here and there, and the number of pets she capture is definitely a random number the author inserted without counting. But this novel is definitely worth more than 1.
