Description
Kuzumi Kentarou is a salesman and also an organ donor card owner (their organs get donated upon death). He gets mugged and almost dies but eventually regains consciousness in a hospital and sees a patient with an ailing heart, Hasegawa Kirin, who tells him that he is completely compatible with her... as a donor.

Kentarou promises to give his heart to her. However, Kentarou lives on, but he never got into college. He now works part-time in the hospital where he begs Kisaragi Ryouko, an organ transplant coordinator, "when will Kirin receive his heart?"

Series could have benefited from more developement

As said by edomikari, the series is edutainment. It focuses significantly on the organ donor process, though it uses some fictitious information here and there to simplify it for people to understand. Because of this, the relationships are never really developed and the series lacks impact, although it isn't an unenjoyable read.

I think that it, if it had been extended another volume, and the education elements were spread out a bit more, the series could have been much better, with much more character development. It feels slightly like the series was planned to be longer, but by the middle of the second volume, the series takes a bit of a turn towards an ending. The ending itself was not a rushed ending, and was satisfying and fleshed out over quite a number of chapters. But, the series felt as if it was moving in a direction towards developing the characters more, and then changed into a direction of ending the series.

Just another social awareness manga

This manga aims to raise social awareness regarding the business behind organ transplant. Takada Yuuzou managed to weave an engaging plot while trying to explain bit by bit the concept of organ donor mediation, donor network, problems involving transplant either mid- or post-op, and the emotional feelings that always surround the moment transplant decision has to be made.
It's one form of edutainment, but in order to convey the message to readers as correctly as possible, lots of prior research are required. I'm impressed by the large list of reference materials used by the author included at the end of volume 2.
