Description
Meiji Haruhito (Kanemochi-kun/the rich boy) just can't understand Misaki (Binbou-kun/the poor boy), but quickly falls for him anyway. However, Haruhito's love life is under threat. Not from a cute girl or ex-lover, but from his own grandfather. The boys' grandfathers knew each other when they were young and Haruhito's grandpa is delighted when he meets Misaki, who looks and acts like his late friend and (unrequited) love.

Not perfect, but still enjoyable

It was definitely a unique story even though the rich/poor trope was used. The fact that Haruhito felt powerless even though he ended up being able say what his grandfather couldn't was interesting. Also, the grandpa's story was pretty sad/unfortunate. Misaki was such a funny character, and I loved how he contrasted so much with Haruhito. I didn't mind the style of the art, but the cuts between different scenes could've been pieced together a little smoother. The background landscapes were a little too sloppy, and the screen toning on the characters made them blend into the background too much at times. Also, I wish the author took their time with the story more. Especially at the end where it literally just cuts to the future and the whole thing gets resolved in like 5 pages.. I really enjoy Hideyoshico's relaxed style, but maybe this one could've been done better.

Such a fluffy love story. It made me cry at certain points especially when the grandpa was reminiscing the past. There is no sexy stuff here so I really recommend this to anyone looking for a sweet and cute story to read.

Lovely; Though A Bit Confusing

Highschool love, poor and rich, tsundere and being stoic; I love this type of settings and characters. The art is also beautiful and definitely great care has been taken in drawing the characters but I feel that a little too much was left to the readers imagination. At the end of it I felt that something was missing from the story. I feel bad myself that I am unable to explain this properly even though I am making this accusation, so sorry about this.

Kanemochi kun to binbou kun

I fell in love when i'm sixteen. This makes me cry, oh God their Grandfather's love is heartbreaking. No doubt, like the sun and the moon which is very near to each other but cannot be close. But i'm happy that their grand children have a happy ending.. After 10 years lol. This manga is like a painting, it draws me in.

I have to admit that the art is great and the plot is not dumb - as I thought at first and the characters are likeable but there's something missing in here (and I don't mean sex). Just like OmNom said, sth is not right. I'd blame the sense of humour in here, in short - it's dumb. It doesn't fit the story. It's barely funny. It's a complete mood-killer. Especially Meiji's friends - what a bother.

I mean the idea is great, the story is about unrequited love from the past - grandpa had a secret crush on his best friend - and about falling in love at present - there's a couple of high-schoolers, it's all nice and original, as well as the grandpa turning into his young self when he starts to hit on Misaki-kun, he's in the full bloom of youth again. I love the idea but the execution is not good.
The storyline is kinda serious and romantic - it deals with the war memories, lack of money, gaining independence and unrequited love of sb's life and this dumb and pathetic humour is confusing and it's crushing everything. You can't be serious and funny in the same time. Sorry.

If you put that aside the story is nice. You can read it but don't expect too much.

Oh god. I broke down crying when Meiji's grandfather was crying on his walk with Misaki. It was so sad.

Misaki is such a nice guy! Love him. And Meiji...hopefully he'll grow up some. I think he could be a good guy. He's a brat in school.

The story is ridiculous in some ways (it's funny), but overall it's sweet and tragic.

The age-changing thing with the grandpa confused me a lot... didn't love that.

I'd definitely read this again, though!

Seriously. Just read it. ( T ^ T )

It's cute, it's touching, and it's funny in all the right places (Misaki's grandpa saying "He's sure taking his damn time")

.. Was I the only one that got a bit confused rather than enchanted after reading this? I think it's kind of cute, I suppose, but my logical brain just doesn't leave me alone until I have solved a puzzle, especially when the questions occur during the time I'm reading/watching something. Not only did the constant change in grandpa's appearance take me by surprise rather than enrapture me, some details in the middle of the story also made me wonder if I'd missed something important. Not to mention the flow of events for me was too clunky to be comprehensible, let alone enjoyable. And about the characters, at the beginning I thought I would be so smitten with them by now, but for some reasons I found myself not quite so now that I've finished reading. It's very odd, this one. If anything, the art is lovely, and the kids are really adorable.

amazing. Hideyoshico just has a unique, wonderful style that I'm totally in love with. It's a bit messy and simplistic, and almost awkward and confusing in a way- but that's the reason it's so good. That's exactly the way emotions are, so the style conveys the feelings of the characters perfectly, in an imperfect way.

Also, even though it wasn't a sad story, per se, it made me choke up a bit. I don't mean to ward anyone who's not into depressing stories off, though. This wasn't really sad or upsetting in any conventional way; rather, I think the reason I teared up was because the emotions conveyed were so simple and raw. It's hard to explain, really. You just have to read it- it's sad and funny, sweet, cute, painful, and beautiful all at the same time.
