Description

Could you survive as a fish? Yushin, the president of Saseong Group, is betrayed by his boss and thrown into a lake, left for dead. But a mysterious voice calls out to Yushin underwater. “Would you like to start a new life?” He wakes up to find himself as a slimy, scaly largemouth bass tasked with a plethora of quests to fulfill that ultimately promises him one wish. Will Yushin be able to navigate the waters and find a way to become human again?

Functionally a Zombie Survival series

While reading this work I kept thinking back to what the plot beats and overall atmosphere reminded me of, and eventually it kind of clicked in my mind that this is functionally just a post-apocalyptic zombie survival series but using fish instead. This also got reinforced in the epilogue when the author stated he originally wanted to make either a generic action/fantasy or a survival/zombie series to begin with but never found the motivation to do so until he mixed it with a topic he was super passionate about: fishing.

However he also added in tons of gamified elements that kind of ruin large portions of it and ironically kind of limit the scope of events since more often than not the author will just use the "skills/levels" as a crutch instead of trying to incorporate large scale tactics or unconventional strategies. Which was further limited by having a majority of the fish being braindead "zombies" whose only goal is to the protagonists and nothing else. Most conflicts are solved because the protagonist is smarter than the "zombies" despite their massive numbers or being much larger in size and special abilities.

A majority of the work are fight scenes which can drag on after reading nothing but those back to back, although the work does occasionally change the pacing up a bit by switching perspectives a few times to take the reader out of the action. The ending is fairly decent all things considered and the author did a fairly good job of detailing all of the marine life, environments, and thinking up ways to adapt everything to fish life.

I feel like it's a fairly well done work overall considering what it is but I can really feel that this is the author's debut work, although I am kind of looking forward to other works they might try to write. They stated they had some regrets with how they handled some of the sections of the work, and they wish they planned everything out more instead of just writing up ideas as they came to him, so hopefully they could improve upon that in their next, if they ever write another one.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Korean Guy becomes a FISH with SYSTEM SUPPORT ™

There's basically no underlying plot much, it's just about... SURVIVING AS A FISH. It spells the usual survival spiel, just survive lmao there's not much plot beyong that (think of Eden no Ori, Alice in Borderland... WHERE THE MEAT IS ABOUT THE SURVIVAL)... But unlike these other 2 series, it's not survival through the dangerous nature (even though it's about the nature)... Mainly due to SYSTEM ™ being a thing here which makes it feel less tense and more like a game. So that being said, I think that the system integration might make it feel more "modern", but also, kinda off-putting and less immersive? Due to the gamey-feeling it has. (cooldowns, level ups, LOL.) Well I do applaud the author trying to execute a somewhat unique combination, it's not the best. Nor the worse. IT'S OK I GUESS.

And if that idea ain't compelling enough for you, don't read it.

Personally, I enjoy the fish tibits. But the fish fights got repetitive if I try to binge it all at once.

I guess, once the novelty wears off, it's so-so.

At least, compared to the other "system" series, it has the fish gimmicks.

Should you read this? Only if you are curious about the execution.... not bad for "trying it". If you're bored then drop it. At least it's not too long. So yeah, only read it if you have time to kill or something like you've finished all your other series.

The pacing is at least consistent. But the characters are the usual typical korean manhwa stock archetypes and don't stand out much. There's not much plot twists or unpredictable turnouts, it's only as interesting as long as your interest in fishes don't dwindle while reading it.

Unexpectedly A Great Action-Packed Tale

It us way better than I thought it is filled with great fights and action-packed scenes it gives a lot of finding nemo vibe it's actually as good as finding nemo as it actually shows how dangerous it is to be a fish and survive, it's ending is satisfactory not bad but felt a little empty because of all the tension,fights,sacrifices it has overall in the entire story which in the end it itself admits in the final scene which kinda made the ending and the story better it makes you want the mc be shown happy with his family and friends even more than just one scene and make him meet everyone's life he saved to let us see thier gratefulness at the very least to him cause they were all trying to kill him first!
