Jay is an only child who is neglected by his alcoholic father after the death of his mother. Max is a promising young swimmer striving to live up to his father's high expectations. Despite the differences in their backgrounds, the two boys are best friends. Max always does his best to help Jay, protecting him from bullies and making sure he has enough to eat.
