Someone once said that good stories tell you why. Why people feel a certain way, why I as a reader should care about what is happening, why characters are motivated to do what they do, etc.
As an example, instead of saying: "MC is in love with a hot boy"
It would say: "The MC found herself drawn to the boy's kindness"
The same sentence telling us she is interested in some guy, but we now know why she likes him.
This book NEVER tells you why. I don't know why the MC likes her crush, I don't know why she has low self esteem, I don't know why she lacks any sort of 3 dimensional depth, I don't know why she doesn't have self-control, I don't know why she is so selfish, I don't know why she lacks morals, I don't know why I should bother reading past chapter 11, I don't know why-
You get my point. Stuff is just happening in the book because the author said it should. Everyone is a 1 dimensional character. Nobody has any depth in this book.
There is nothing wrong with having a wishy washy MC, but you have got to make them 3 dimensional. There are things like** Internal and External struggles**, and they are much deeper than the stupid "oh I simply can't break away from insert the guy of the day who will kiss her here" nonsense.
You can't expect me to believe that such a nice girl who was raised by her grandma is capable of making out with all those guys, and NOT ONCE feeling ashamed of herself for how she acts and growing from it. NOT ONCE does she feel "wow I am really easy" and feel disgusted at herself? NOT ONCE does she feel uncomfortable around strange men being nice to her, after x amount of times they have pushed themselves on her already? UNBELIEVABLE NONSENSE!
Having her LEARN & REACT from the things happening to her and struggle with her morals as her helplessness to stop these men place her on an intense emotional roller coaster where she must fight against her low-self esteem, her hatred for her helplessness, and the possibility that she may never find true love since she sexually attracts men to her. All these conflicts are in the story and NOT ONE of them is used for character development.
