~read first 3 chapters.
I read the latest two chapters just before I went downstairs to eat. As I sit there, sipping my soup, my thoughts go back to Returners. I had not one pleasant feeling inside of me left, something that would simply indicate that I enjoyed it, and that it was - if nothing else - an enjoyable piece of entertainment. Just empty.
We, as readers, have been introduced to a whole new setting with new elements and new story, That is supposed to pull us in. It didn't do it's job like it's supposed to. One word mainly comes to mind. Pointless. Pointless and not even enjoyable ecchiness, pointless protagonists, which seems to be somewhat strong but throwing up all the time, waiting to see his Guardian's clothes get torn up enough for him to help in a "flash". Only one thing might save this character. If he recovers his presumably lost memories soon. Absolutely pointless side characters - the construction worker. Really? Seriously? Is he going to turn out to be a monster too, so it is actually going to make at least a little bit of ridiculous sense of purpose as to what the hell is he doing in there? And the story.. wanna guess? Pointless, indeed. At least to this point. Plenty of flashbacks did nothing to do it any good.
There is just one thing that spikes my interest at this point somewhat. The red cloaked king. This guy seems like he might be fun, not just pointlessly wandering around. But it remains to be seen.
Bottom line - ecchi is distasteful, characters weak, story absurdly nonexistant and action scenes themselves plain. Just look at the main character Ibuya's attack. Some strikes of the light, and he is done along with the fight.. I must applaud at the most unappealing way to kill a monster. Flashlight in my hand, me waving it around the air a bit without moving a limb and suddenly appearing somewhere else with the monster in pieces. Masterpiece.
On hold for now, will give it another try in a year or two. Read for yourself, don't take my word and opinion for your own. Story generally gets better after the first few chapters.
