Mediocre but worth reading for the cultural references

=I've read this on manga-planet=

I was duped into thinking this was going to be a cat manga. It is not. The cat is not the main focus of the story. It's basically an autobiography of the mangaka growing up with a cat with the focus being all the cultural influences she was having while growing up in late 60s - 70's. She name drops many movies, manga, sci-fi novels she was reading, along with social happenings, news from Japan at the time & anything else that was important mentioning.

Is it a good manga? Not at all. It lacks skill in many areas & I was ready to drop it while skimming through it fast to understand what it was about. After the first few chapters the focus shifts to all these cultural references that were happening around her & that's where it hooked me. Apart from actually learning many facts that you probably don't know about Japan it mentions a few unusual news from back then that were quite amusing.

Like the parent who took uni placement exams posing as a body double for his daughter. I haven't found an actual news article regarding that but everything else in the manga is factual so I don't see why this wouldn't be.
