Gu Jin, an ordinary worker, transmigrates into a novel as the best friend and cousin of the female protagonist, Cheng Xin, who is constantly surrounded by influential men. Initially, Gu Jin believes she will enjoy a lifelong friendship with Cheng Xin, but soon discovers that the body she now inhabits holds memories of future events beyond the novel’s plot. These memories reveal that her marriage to Shao Chong, the second male lead, will end disastrously due to his obsession with Cheng Xin, and that he will neglect her even when she is kidnapped and beaten to death. Determined not to live as a mere supporting character in someone else’s story, Gu Jin decides to seize control and become the protagonist of her own romance.
