I see sexual assault mentioned and statutory rape but not the rape that happens in Chapter 3!? FL's friend is raped by her boyfriend as both ML & FL watch. Is it treated as such? NOPE, OF COURSE NOT! That would require the author to have a brain and common sense! Up to this point I had to let some things slide like the irritating, gross, demeaning panty shots and ML's treatment of his girlfriend when he pulled her clothes up to see her boobs (he was appropriately punished and respects her wishes). NOW THIS SHIT?!! F NO! That was horrifying and it pisses me off how rape/sexual assault is treated like it's sex and normal. That bastard acted like he had zero self control, like a mindless beast and didn't give a rats ass on how she felt or if he was even hurting her. Not to mention the fact that asshole didn't even use a condom! Ugh, I need to go calm down, I'm pissed off. F*K Rape Culture!!
Edit: Finished it. The main couple are great after that rough start but he definitely respects her wishes and he genuinely loves her. It was sweet when they were finally together and I like how there relationship is still a work in progress because of future hurdles like college and "other" things. It's realistic that way. I wish this story ONLY focused on them. The 2nd couple (baseball) are okay but problematic. They do get better (boyfriend finally learns self control) by the end though which was nice to see. The 3rd "two individuals" can go and stop existing. They are the worst parts of the story and should have never been a thing. It's toxic and disgusting! They are part of the main reason the score is so low. F*K statutory rapists and the romanticising of them. It was gross, manipulative, predatory behavior and should have never happened.
I originally said that the Author didn't think things through nor had common sense when certain choices were made about certain upsetting scenes but it turns out it's far worse than that. They are most certainly capable of these things but instead CHOSE to conceptualize, write, draw and ink these scenes ON PURPOSE! I say this because the main couple are treated far more respectfully. ML always makes sure that she's comfortable and asks her what she does and doesn't like. He is patient, careful and doesn't force himself on her at inappropriate places, like that piece of shit in the class room. If she means no and stop, he does and talks to her about it. They are in a healthy relationship even if they have clashing personalities. The Author is very much capable of writing characters that respect consent, boundaries and communication about, before and during sexual situations (that includes sex). They just chose not to and added vile garbage on top of the already problematic situations and depictions of the female characters.
Alright, I said all I needed to say.
