10/10 for 14 volumes, then a mixed bag and then garbage after vol 20

I have nothing but praise for how this handles its main characters and story for a long time BUT the side characters are a mixed bag from the start with some being very interesting while others are boring whenever they get any pages. The comedy is excellent and in many cases sets up some very serious scenes, enhancing them and making them stand out.

After the first 14 volumes the author decides that they should focus a LOT more on the side characters favoring some of the least interesting ones and instead of giving them some sort of development that would make them more interesting they get developments that made me care less and less about them. Whenever the story does not center on those side characters the manga is still very entertaining for a while. The stories also become FAR more serious and the comedy of the first 14 volumes very rarely shows up again but is still top notch when it does.

Then around volume 20 anything that was of value is over. This is also the point where the author admits they stopped trying to be funny. Most characters are now shadows of their former selves. The stories feel like a skit show deciding to put on an overly serious telenovela and being awful at it. The serious elements no longer stand out surrounded by humor, now everything is trying to be serious and while the story used to be brilliant for a comedy that same story is pretty poor for a serious drama ...

I regret sticking with this hoping it gets better again because it never does, I wish I dropped it after volume 14 or maybe 16

Easy 10/10

Despite (or because of?) regularly trolling the readers, Akasaka-sensei wrote one of the better series I've had the pleasure of reading. One of the easiest 10/10 manga for the characters, the story, and even the conclusion. The conclusion, most notably, actually takes more than two or three chapters and really wraps things up satisfyingly.

First Half is a Modern RomCom Masterpiece

Much can be and is already said about this series, how it is an era defining work and elevated the genre to new heights. The first half of the series certainly lives up to and deserves all praise and Kaguya will continue to be referenced as an exemplary series in the coming years.

Alas, two flaws start to manifest in the second half. The author couldn't help but excessively focus on his self-insert character instead of developing the main characters' relationship. As the story wrapped up, the author clearly lost interest in the series, quite likely due to events in his personal life (see Vol 22 Extras).

The last chapter was good, the last few chapters before were definitely not.

honestly I loved it even more than I thought I would. I love all the characters, the humor is fantastic, and the mix between episodic chapters and the more serious plot progressing chapters is well balanced. Absolutely a 10/10.

while the main cast have gone near their respective goals (as ch 137), the others chara is explored and paired, like ishigami
others chara is still left as side kick like chika or the maid of shinomiya

i enjoy the read, until now it's still rosy highschool love comedy, hope won't go to others direction

It’s in a good place right now

Currently, most of the characters’ backstories and personalities have been revealed and feels like it’s coming to a conclusion unlike other romance series like Nisekoi. It’s probably not going to end yet, but each chapter is very enjoyable and the humor is sharp and sometimes even meta.

It doesn't stay the same

I've read some reviews of people criticizing the fact that the premise of the manga kinda got lost after a while. While there's a bit of truth in that, it's for good reasons; this manga plays well with keeping the status quo without making it stagnating. The characters develop in an organic way, so it's just natural that their interactions change as well; but it doesn't happen all of a sudden, it's a slow and believable process. While the characters change, they never contradict who they are, and the comedy keeps being on point, just changing range from time to time. This way the manga has managed to stay fresh, when keeping the same formula all along would have killed it in the long run.

really like it. not often do u see both characters desire each other the same amount. usually in romance mangas the male character does nothing but chase the female character. this is like as close to 50/50 you can get in terms of give and take.

Forgot its own roots

It started out very good, both Main Characters had equal abilities for the 'war of love' in which the one to confess first loses.
As it went on, one gets already suspicious of it rather early. The male character does not take the initiative at all (not entirely true, 1 time he pretended to be asleep *slow clap*). The female is doing the most planning, like setting traps.
Now it is at a point that the female lead character jumps in just to get ridiculed most of the time, while the male one has a a few 'shining hero' scenes.
There is a huge imbalance now between the characters and that killed the manga for me.

The comedy is still good, but it doesn't save the manga after the loss of its own premise.
