If Jordan Peterson had written a manga, it might have been something like this...

It starts out quite fun and interesting, but very soon starts to trip over itself as the writer starts to excessively channel her gripes with "today's youth" through every encounter the protagonist has with his peers. They are either portrayed as dimwits with absolutely zero communication ability, or as awkward caricatures of juvenile delinquents. The latter always immediately confront the main character and provoke him, something he always responds to by lashing out in self-righteous violence and then runs away. I'm currently on the 8th tankoubon, and I have yet to see the main character attempt any form of empathy or diplomacy when resolving his conflicts. They are always dismissed as lost causes, best dealt with using either violence or occult violence. In contrast, all adult characters are always presentenced as strong and wise role models. The writer very much wants to show how everything was better in the good old days without ever entertaining the possibility that any of today's problems might be rooted in that very era she tries to glorify.

Refreshing and interesting shounen

This shounen is refreshing and interesting for the two first volumes. The author successfully introduces a gallery of youkai portraits around a very sympathetic character. While globally funny and fast paced, the manga sometimes slows down for more psychology, or even a slight touch of sociology. Up to this point, I was very enthusiastic.

From the end of volume 2, the story becomes much less continuous. I began to feel bored in some chapters and quickly skimmed through the pages, hoping the following chapter would be better. Unfortunately, volume 4 and 5 were so bad I have no hope anymore: a very bland and tedious detective story of a ghost/curse in a high school spans on two whole volumes, with hints of harem.

The drawings are okay, and often better than most shounen manga.

based on 'till chp. 18

well, I myself little confuse
there seems, a fair amount of shounen ai atmosphere in last chapter, but not go to yaoi line it seems, or you can said it about close friendship, suit you well...
also it's quite well drawing and the story quite warm fun on it

actually it's good and nice to read
not only it tell about someone who try to understand himself, he try to understand around him (yeah more yokai and not-in-world being)
and also it seems there no romance point on flag here, not yet maybe...

also 1 chapter is quite a lot page, 39 page
so 1 chapter almost contain 1 story to tell
so you don't need to wait about cliffhanger
(btw i say almost, not always) biggrin

The art is great

I really like the clean lines of the drawings, and the character design is solid. There is a huge range of characters that are available in the cast, and the revelation in chapter 3 can open up the manga to a wide range of possible plotlines as well.

I will be following this for its novelty and the art.
