I look at the ratings given for this collection here, and I try, but fail, to understand why more of those people couldn't see what high-quality stuff it is. To put it simply, Hanazawa-sensei has the willingness to look squarely at the sad and difficult sides of life, coupled with the creativity to make up stories that make those aspects instantly interesting to the reader, and the drawing ability to make his renditions of them seem real. I don't know how you could ask for any more than that from a manga creator.
This collection is fascinating for anyone who likes Hanazawa's work because it demonstrates how, over time, he developed the abilities that have made it great. Try "I Am a Hero" or "Boys on the Run", and you'll see what I mean. Or just read any of the last 6 of these dated stories, which show his abilities maturing.
