The legendary woman Yae Niijima has been chosen to appear in the 2013 NHK Taiga Drama. It was also Yae whom the author had been interviewing to depict for Aizu. Yae is often referred to as the Jeanne d'Arc of the late Edo period, and only her manly side is often featured. But what was the real Yae like? Yae was a kind-hearted woman who cherished her husband, her family, and Aizu - this is the author's vision of Yae.
