Her art really hasn't changed that much; she draws eyes pretty much exactly the same, it's just that everyone has a new hairstyle & she doesn't draw hair with as much detail as she used to. Possibly she draws faces a bit wider than she used to. There are points in the 1st volume when the art looks sketchy & unfinished & the background art will be missing entirely.

But at least I can actually tell the men apart now; secondary characters all used to look like slightly modified clones of Berkley or Drake & all of the women used to look like Randy in drag with a wig. Her women actually look like women now.

I'm not surprised she made a sequel; when I finished the end of the original, it was like "That was it? I feel like so many things haven't been explained yet."

Fake 2 seems to focus very little on the romance compared to the original...Doesn't help that Berkley suddenly gave up on Randy & went to the straight side in the "Like Like Love extra" & J.J. could never be taken seriously as a rival.

One volume came out every two years. With no volume in 2013, & it's safe to say that Fake 2 has an abrupt non-ending, just like it's predecessor. At the end of volume 2, Matou mentions a lack of motivation with her work. Indeed, her website has not been updated since 2011, except a message about Comic City Osaka from January 2014, with a new FAKE doujinshi & some Tiger & Bunny.

Fake was one of my very first yaoi manga. I was hesitant to read it seeing as the art wasn't exactly the type I enjoyed, but I went for it anyway. The art started to grow on me, and I found it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

I finished Fake, so I decided to move onto this. The change was drastic. Honestly, I prefer this art to her old style. I thought this was a lot...smoother, I suppose. Easier on the eyes than the older style. It took me a while to get used to the new art, and I still read this almost every day. Despite that, I just can't shake the feeling that I'm reading something new. Not completely different, almost like I'm reading a doujinshi or something. The character's still act the same, the storyline's still there, it's all there. But it's almost impossible for me to mesh this one to the first Fake. It's like the same cake made by two different chefs.

Don't let that stop you from reading this, though. You absolutely must. It's a fantastic story, art changes and all. If this was drawn in stick figures by a two-year old, I would still read it.

I thought her art work was good before. Normally I HATE when artists change their style (creators of D. Gray Man, Fruits Basket, and Descendants of Darkness for example. Sometimes it can't be helped, but I hate it...) But I think this is a good change. It's still the same Ryo and Dee! <3 I just recently got into Fake and I love it. I can't wait for Fake II to be published in English... if it ever is... :-(

I jumped right to this after reading the original Fake and the sudden art change blew me away. I like the old art style, but i love the new one more xD they are both epic though, i really cant beleive the difference. Anyway, the story remains just as good in my mind and the characters, despite the radical art change, are the same as ever <3 Fake is and shall remain one of my favourite yaoi manga's of all time :3 *loves on Ryuu and Dee*

I know many people have already stated they didn't care for the new style, so I'm probably in the minority when I say I like the new style over her old style (the original fake books). While the older one has a distinctive 80s or 90s feel the newer style seems more "contemporary" or "modern", though "updated" sounds just as good. I think the style fits in nicely with the new century, and with all that said, the artwork still has the wonderful Matoh-sensei influence we fell in love with. It doesn't feel like "a different artist", so make sure to check this new series out to find out for yourself. Who knows, maybe the style will grow on you? I never could get used to the older style artwork, so any preference over styles will lie solely within the beholder.

Also, the series holds true to the comedic feel of the original series, while still managing to balance out with its sometimes more serious and dramatic moments. I think that her new style, while at times may be "cartoon-esque" does well to enhance (or rather, doesn't distract) from its, at times, serious nature.

Plus, the characters, in my opinion, are much better looking (and hotter) - plus, I like how Ted and Drake (and JJ for that matter) are featured. Ted and Drake seem to have a slightly bigger role here, with their physical characteristic more detailed and personalities flushed out. JJ is just awesome anyways, but I do wish I could see more of his sniper shooting-skills.

While I wasn't a big fan of Bikky or Carol to begin with, the fact that the two actually -look- like children, and aren't so preoccupied with disrupting Dee and Ryo's relationship. Which, in the end, only leads me towards a more positive outlook on any extra screen-time they might receive in the future chapters.

Lets not forget as well, Dee and Ryo are actually -wait for it- TOGETHER. I loved how the first series took its time with this relationship, which I think made it more "real" instead of the instant-lovers formula that sometimes seems too common now.

So far this series gets ten stars from me, as I personally do enjoy (a whole lot) this fresh take on the series continuation. I hope this manga runs for as long as her other one did, because I see lots of possibilities for its future. Plus, I do enjoy a nice Police inspirited manga once in a while - mystery solving, murder investigations, guns, the "day to day" work routine. I'm just glad Matoh-sensei didn't take her police-crime fighting inspiration from those police-based reality shows on TV.

Keep the series coming, Matoh-sensei! I love your work!

I tend to stay away from the more cartoony manga, but for Fake II I'm making an exception. I really really miss her old style. I also wish there was a bit more Ryo/Dee yaoi, but I guess it's still pretty early on in the series. Still, I freaking love Fake and it's awesome to be able to read more!!!!

Hmmm... can't say I really like the new drawing style. It's like she's progressed technically-wise but her characters just don't emote as well anymore. Will this be a lull or a permanent thing? I don't know.

Anyways, it's the same ol', same ol'. It's good to see the cast back again although I don't think the plot and storytelling styles will be any different.

Also, I was a bit disappointed at some of the inconsistencies like GPS for child monitoring and other details being far more modern than they should've been, for a series supposedly set in the 90s. Whether it'd be fixed in the tankouban, I wouldn't know. And I hope that they didn't cut out Lai and his girlfriend out of the cast but what does it matter? They're almost from the same mould as Bikky and Carol.

The art style was a bit hard to get used to, but it's not bad. So far, I'm really enjoying the chapters. It's nice to see that having Dee and Ryo actually together doesn't really spoil the reading. Those two are still interesting to read about! ♥

I'm pretty disappointed that Matoh changed her art style so drastically. Her old style was much better. However, I still have such a soft spot for these characters. ♥

Wow, Matoh's Art did like a 180. Personally I enjoyed the old art style a whole lot more but I do like the fact that theres a sequal to read. I love FAKE! = )
