As long as you hold off your suspension of belief, and can ignore these made-up terms, it's pretty enjoyable

The author really enjoys playing with terms like "Metavision" while it's just "peripheral awareness" or "spatial memory" lol (the actual term for Metavision).
Despite these cringe decisions, it's still oddly entertaining and captivating enough!
The illustrator and the author are really great at depicting the action scenes, the flow of movement, and conveying the determination and persistence of the cast.

I'm a sucker for sports shounen, and *finally* we have an actual good soccer manga (cough, not area no kishi)

It's about football...I think

I feel like I was introduced to a sports shounen but then you can't help but cheer on as Isagi tries his best to be the top striker with or without teams. I feel like the manga-ka did a great job of making it creative based on the football x death game setting and the characters... are fine.
I've read up to vol. 4 and everyone is just really into football which is great since there's no sudden romantic subplot that can ruin a series. Also, the power of friendship and forming close bonds with male friends is a theme here.
FWIW: I have no knowledge of sports but I'm just reading it as I'd read any kind of superpower shounen manga and it's still entertaining.
One of the downsides I feel like everyone in the cast gets random power-ups during the games and I'm like well, I think it's clear this makes a lot of the action scenes awkward since it kills some of the tension.
Also, everyone is creeping toward Anri Teieri who only exists to bring meals and clean after men for no reason, and for focusing on her chest for every single panel. Also, there a no other relevant women in the entire series beyond the player's mothers and sisters. I'm like damn, this is weird even for shonen.
Also the scanlation it's pretty rough with excessive profanity and slurs. I'm honestly not sure what happened with the groups. Also, I feel like a lot of the dialogue is cringe and just bizarre to read esp Ego Jinpachi where it feels like he's just sprouting word salads each time. There were several moments I had to think...did teens talk like this? Does anyone talk like this on Earth?
The art is very expressive and dynamic which is good since it can look strange since it's an active sport. I admit character design is OK with each guy with a different hair/body but it does feel a bit bland since everyone has one main trait like long hair or eyelashes.
Edit: I read up to ch 168 and my thought is ehhh, it does fall off a bit after the 2nd selection and we just get more of the same but just bigger rivals with stranger names. I feel like the same problem it lost a lot of impacts since you know Isagi will win or show up everyone in the last min for like every obstacle then it started to be dragged down. I feel like this is just going to be endless tourney mode and I want to be free. I feel like it would be better to have a shorter running time than just fade out b/c it's just too many of the same scenes.

Well in high school no one in my class wouldn't play. Now I finished high school I have no friends I could play with. There is a pandemic out there too. It has been nearly 3 years since the last time I played. I just miss it. And this manga made me miss even more.
It looks from a totally different angle to the football. As a forward player though I pretty much like it. It feels like I have been understood. People always called my gamestyle a little bit selfish and uneffective when I only wanted to score more. My game style resembles Bachira's btw but my passes aint that good. Yet my shoots are beter imo. Well it has been 3 years like I said, I no longer have that much confidence in my skill but still I want to believe that it is so. I hope I can find someone in university who would play with me. As a weeb ofcourse I have the social skills of a spoon so wish me luck.
Art is pretty good btw.

A sport series with the atmosphere of a horror escape game because losing means DEATH (of their football careers and dreams of playing pro). The art style is amazing; very expressive and dynamic. So far a lot of the techniques seem grounded in reality, and I do hope it doesn't go the Prince of Tennis route where it all goes into superpower mode. There's a lot of character development to go around too, not just with Isagi the mc, but also with other cast members.
Honestly a great series so far, and I hope it keeps on.

I learned of Blue Lock thanks to fans on Twitter and decided to give it a try for the cool/cute designs of the characters, only to discover an utterly addictive, high-octane sports series with gorgeous, kinetic art and (yes) some dang fine-lookin' guys playing with crazy cool techniques. It's series like this that got me hooked on sports series like KuroBas, Haikyuu, Free, and Chiyahafuru.
Now I'm hoping Blue Lock gets licensed and animated. Catching up to the latest chapter was thrilling and torturous at the same time! I want more!
