I really enjoyed reading this manga. Probably one of my favourites in fact. I picked it up after reading Cardcaptor Sakura because I loved the idea Syaoran and Sakura in an alternate universe. (These two will probably be one of my most favourite couples.) Like the commentor below me said, it starts out very light and happy with lots of comedy. Somewhere towards the middle it starts getting quite a bit darker. The characters are excently developed with lots of backstory. The only thing I could complain about was the end, I felt like it dragged on for quite some time. It was also quite confusing, but that's just me. My tine little brain just could not comprehend it all. Of course, if I come back and re-read it, I might find myself liking it a little more. If you're looking for a really light and comedy filled manga, I don't suggest reading this. Or if you do, I just suggest reading the first half because like I said, it does get quite darker later on in the series. Otherwise, the art is quite gorgeous and the story is wonderful, so I highly reccomend it.

The whole thing became a trainwreck in the end with the whole thing about the clones and stuff. Seriously, it was going well for some time but then it just kinda started getting confusing. Maybe it was the quality of the scanlations, maybe I just wasn't paying attention. But it seemed like they tried to drag it on for a long while and then all of a sudden end it and rushed out the rest of the plot points.

Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle is a more well known manga, and it didn’t take me long to hear about it as I began looking into manga and reading it. However (as of writing this review) I have never read any other manga by CLAMP (none other really interested me…) so I skirted away from Tsubasa, not really wanting to read it and thinking that I wouldn’t understand it since it was supposedly an alternate story or a side story for most of CLAMP’s other works. I’m not quite sure why I finally decided to read Tsubasa, but I did decide to and read it all the way through, and I’m very glad I did for I really enjoyed the story!

Plot- Unfortunately I read and saw (not on purpose really) many spoilers for the series (thankfully I understood hardly any of the spoilers and while reading didn’t understand how the spoilers could happen, and while reading the spoilers didn’t really care about the story or its spoilers so I didn’t pay the spoilers to much heed) and while reading/seeing those spoilers lowered my enjoyment of the series a bit I still really enjoyed the story a lot. The beginning was a bit lacking, we are quickly thrown into the story without really knowing the characters, and we jump right into jumping from world to world. We are then presented a formulaic plot, going to a world, finding where the feather is, getting the feather, the only differences in each world is the adversaries keeping them from getting the feather. Some worlds were more enjoyable than others but after a while this plot began to wear thin and I wanted something a bit more exciting. So for me the plot only got really good around chapter 107 and then it got really good, and much more exciting as we left the formula plot line we had been holding to before. Be warned, the plot is very complicated, you will need to think while reading some chapters and you will have to remember things in order to understand some of the events that happen later. Sometimes I did get a bit confused by the plot but I eventually straightened everything out in my mind, all in all I can say I enjoyed the plot of the story (especially chapter 107 to the end).

Characters- Each character was very unique and different, a diverse cast throughout all the worlds. There is quite a large cast of characters, but I didn’t find it to hard to remember who was who. We are thrown into the story straight away and don’t really know the main characters that well but we soon come to know and care about them. Its great to see the main cast change and grow over the course of the series, watching them face up to their fears and realize their wishes. They all grew and changed over the series, and the character growth was done very nicely and realistically.

Art- The art is nice, everything it quite detailed and the characters designs are varied making it pretty easy to differentiate the characters

Except for then we had more than one clone in the scene… then it got a bit hard
, the clothing, buildings and people were all very nicely detailed and different in each world traveled to and it really helped add to the story. However sometimes during the action sequences (especially when there was a lot of magic being used) the pages could get a bit too full and it was a bit hard to tell what was going on, but it wasn’t too bad.

Other- I can understand why some people won’t like this story, the plot does get complicated and difficult to understand, the beginning of the story is a bit lacking and can be bland and even boring, and the strange twists of the story some people may not like. I can understand why some people don’t like the story, but for me I really enjoyed the story and I do recommend it. Now at the time I read Tsubasa I had never read anything else by CLAMP, but that didn’t detract from me understanding the plot of Tsubasa any less, and not reading anything else by CLAMP didn’t detract from my enjoyment of Tsubasa either. Sure people who have read other things from CLAMP might be able to notice ties and relations to other series (I even noticed some without reading anything else by CLAMP) but you really don’t have to have read any other thing from CLAMP in order to understand and enjoy Tsubasa. To sum it up I do very much recommend Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, just make sure you hang on through the first half of the story until you get to the really good parts of the second half.

8/10 – Was good

Tsubasa was my introduction to good manga, so I might be biased, but when I try to look at it from an objective view, I still love it. It's a great manga with great drawings, an amazing plot, and almost god-like execution. It provides a good base for why everything happens; the spark that begins the story is rooted in romance and gives a little romance through out the story while still not overdoing it (like so many manga's do) and still contains lots of action and adventure. Tsubasa is a wonderfully balanced manga that never grows boring or repetitive, and is a magnificent work of art.

Tsubasa Chronicle has been my favorite anime since I first saw it in 2005. Fai and Kuro-puu were a big part of this, and later on I decided to read the manga when I figured the anime would likely not ever finish the story.

I somewhat suspected already
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Syaoran might have a clone
in the first season since I caught the hints in the anime. Though
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Sakura being a clone
was what surprised me more.

I really loved the added drunk scene in Outo, which I was sad never appeared in the anime since that would've been fun to see. ^^

Ahem, anyway, some of the twists thrown into the latter part of the story could have been a bit more gradual than they were. They eventually threw in so much, you didn't necessarily understand all the information thrown at you since it came so fast.

To sum it up, I really enjoyed this manga. So far this is the only work of CLAMP I have thoroughly enjoyed over and over. I'd give it a higher rating, but there was a lot of confusion further into the story that just made it difficult for me to follow along with all the history and family lineage.

I really hate to give this an 8 but the ending did not satisfy me. I read this all in 2 days because i couldn't tear myself away from it. Went to bed late woke up early just to continue reading. Loved every minute of it. I laughed, i cried, and made me smile alot at all the gushy stuff (even between Fye and Kuro-tan XD). BUT then as it started to end i felt that something was missing. Then it ended and i realize what the hell it was that was missing...

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Who the hell was Syaoran?!?!
If you've read this you will come to understand that this guy has no parents at all. Yea i get the part about his clone and Sakura's clone giving birth to him. But that was something that shouldn't have happened. So he had to have real parents somewhere becuase at the end the clones DID NOT EXIST!!
*pulls hair out*
And then him and Sakura share the same name and they were always distined to be together. It all doesn't make sense. There are a bunch of stuff that isn't adding up. The difficult stuff i get but the simple things...wth?!?! (lol kept saying this over and over as it was ending)
*cries*
I really want to know who he was before all this stuff happened.
And it's kinda gay that the clones lived to have better lives then the orignal Syaoran and Sakura

i agree with you "ljkabookie", It had a nice story but the epilogue kinda mess up the ending, but at least they answered sakura real name which i was wondering. But oh well, it always good to know that an adventure would never go to an end, and more excitement advanture lye ahead of them. So i give it a 9.5
