Description
[Summary by Qidian International]

The epic and legendary tale of an extraordinary young man rising up from the masses, traversing his life in the pursuit of quantity over quality. His inquisitive voice echoes infinitely through the hills of the immortal Academy: "I am one who would rather suffer an eternity of destined calamities than beg for solace from thy saints..."

Very well-written protagonist in an unpredictable plot

The story presented to you all the common tropes of wuxia with a twist. Eg: It introduced you a haughty, extremely beautiful princess early on in the story?
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Sorry, not a love interest, just a political ally
. The MC tried harder and harder for something?
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Nope, he ultimately failed and succeeded with another method by circumstances
. The MC murdered a bunch of people and got away with it?
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Nope, they will all bite him in the ass in the future
. Needless to say, after the first few twist, you'll always be on your feet to know the consequences from the events. However, the pacing of this story is slow, very slow (it has 1000+ chapters). Many plot points are left unexplored until hundreds of chapters later. (to name a few: MC's cultivation, MC's calligraphy hobby, MC's revenge, the maid, MC's[spoiler] reincarnation[spoiler]etc...). The story also gets very philosophical later on, with a lot of quotes taken/modified from Buddhism and Taoism. Certain battles even became a literal battle of words (the choice of verse determines the strength and attribute of the spells) , rather than sheer violence.

The protagonist is one of the wittiest protagonist I've ever seen. He just had a way with words and it's just very satisfying when he "put down" people with mere words. He's also extremely determined, but in smart way: He knew when to stop. He does get lucky, but his luck is well earned, as it's the combined result of hard work, intelligence, and his social/political connection. And all of his victories don't feel like bullshit, but rather the eventual result from a long process.

Read up to chapter 70, and the best way to describe the story is political. So far, there has been little to no Action, Adventure, Fantasy, or Romance at all in the story. The MC is on a quest for vengeance, but aside from accidentally meeting and killing an assassin group, he has killed a single target of his so far. The MC also mentioned that he is planning on entering a famous academy throughout the story, but 70 chapters later there is no progress. I believed the MC was going to find a way to cultivate and become stronger, but that has not happened. Maybe the image of the WN fooled me?

Boring indeed

Not well written, it's hard to remain interested in any of the characters. Maybe my mind wanders thanks to its dullness, but it's also hard to keep track of what's going on even during the action scenes (which are few and far between). There's basically no character development at all.

When browsing for other xianxia novels to read, this is the one I hate accidentally coming across. This doesn't even qualify as xianxia.

It's boring! good to read when you can't sleep

After reading chapter 20 I am so sleepy right now *yawn*
I have yet to read all so this one is based on the chapter I read..

The plot? so far all I know mc want revenge then period..
MC potential? so shallow I was excited by the intro which claim if MC would be a demon or a saint but so far that was baseless..
MC is a good soldier and is even feared at his place and his action was great fighting other enemies but this story always insist that mc has no potential or mc is useless..
Its rare to read a novel which discourage the potential of an mc..
The relationship between characters is dull.. one can compare how mc interact with his maid..
there is a wall in it that makes mc a loner.. in a normal bases mc would highly value his maid like a family and its true in this novel but aside from that they clearly fix with master and servant relationship and deny the family feeling..
As the story goes on I can't help the feeling that remind of a a certain novel about a bitch princess..
yeah bitch princess is spotted on this novel (which well clearly torment the mc)
a 14 year old princess married to a barbarian ruler for the sake of peace? and shes the only potential romantic partner of our mc? and there status is like heaven and hell.. the mc has no interest of the princess but our bitch princess seem have a liking to our mc.. (Our bitch princess already has 1 child at the age of 16 while mc is still 15)

The adventure was way to boring... kill here kill that I often felt sleepy while reading..
it was good if the mc was highlighted but the mc rarely appear making it a story which rarely centered around the mc.. and what I hated the most is the unnecessary appearance of character who easily die after.. if they die what the point of having POV from them..

The only reason I read this novel was I encountered this from a manga..
It was a good manga but novel is downgraded.. to much reading waste of time..
But if you want to be sleepy or can't sleep
I recommend one need to read this I guarantee after a few chapters you well have a good nice sleep..
