At the time of writing this, there are two chapters left to go (MAL says there are 14). I'll be updating this after they come out, but, considering how chapter 12 ended, they are probably extras. For all intents and purposes, I am considering the main story complete.
It's rare to see an omegaverse story where the social constraints of it are used so well in character and world development. I'd go so far as to say that I would've completely forgotten the fact that this even is omegaverse, had it not been brought up now and then within the story. Right off the bat, this gets a big plus from me because it's not a sex-centered story—rather, you get meaningful character interactions, political intrigue, steady buildup of the romance, and a plot that spans years. Another big plus for the good, healthy communication between Khalid and Ilya.
Let's talk about the characters, then. Ilya is the central figure: he goes from depressed and misanthropic to strong and assertive, though he's never portrayed as emotionally weak, either. He is the complete opposite of omegas who quietly accept their fate and wait for an alpha to save them. Khalid starts off as a 10-year-old and is written well enough to avoid appearing too mature for his age; like others state, you can tell from his actions what kind of person he will become. Shout-out to best girl Soo-Ya, who reminds me of Missandei in terms of how tactful and sharp she is; seeing her and Ilya support each other is a pleasure.
Heavily recommended if you're tired of the usual omegaverse fare and want a story that pays more attention to the plot.
