Well. 9 out of 10 Japanese vertical comics almost always copies more of the bad aspects of manhwa and manhua vertical style than the good. This one? So far the art is decent.
Not surprisingly the angles, perspective, shadows and just all around artistic aesthetics is better than 80% of manhua and manhwa vertical/webtoon style comics.
I mean, that really should not be a surprise coming from Japanese comic artists. But it always is because this vertical style itself seems to be their weak point.
The proportions? They're still exaggerated, of course. Sometimes the MC looks like a roided out short person though because of how big his head is compared to how narrow his bulging neck and shoulders are.
The big breasted girls have Gainax jiggle physics. Of course. 🙄😒
Also not surprising in manga: The beast king is a bishounen. Dude is incredibly pretty. Giving us who enjoys good looking men who aren't total jack asses in shonen and seinen stories crumbs here and there is...nice. How kind of the artist to think of us starving fans.
The fights are dynamic, as expected. Even when it's done for laughs it's still got a palpable tension AND weight to them. There are logical consequences.
The characters are unique. Not in their species or even stereotypical looks like the underbite tusks for orcs and so on, BUT the artistic style gives them memorable characteristics.
Even the cute, kind, fawning over MC for no other reason than because the writer wants a pointless, big breasted, beast girl to do that is memorable.
Hilariously MC, who is male, and I'm pretty sure this was drawn/written for the straight male demographic, is often drawn in aggressive combat poses that ONLY women (in manhua and manhwa) with painted on clothes, a G-string and 3 scarves, are usually drawn in.
It makes for some pretty entertaining fight scenes. (For those of us tired of all the grossly unfair and obectified women created solely for male-gaze fanservice.) The reader is suddenly treated to the view of the MC's family jewels as he does a flipping, half split in mid-air.
Too bad he still had boxers on. IF he was a woman his entire intimate anatomy would have been lovingly shaded, outlined and plumped up.
The comedy is done well...when MC is not creeping on the beast girl. Which is every time he thinks about her. 🤮
The story is typical of this subgenre. Don't expect anything innovative or creative.
This manga has an MC who immediately became arrogant, perverted and holier than thou within one chapter, after becoming OP. There's endless training arcs, asshole side characters, pointlessly big breasted women with barely any clothes on and an MC who has lewd, hentai face when he thinks of his female companions.
Not my thing.
