umm...

Well, this manga kinda annoys me. I don't really know why it gets so many 10's...but that' s just me.
Anyways, let's start with the characters. Mayu. Strong, smart, beautiful. Totally great heroine, but completely perfect and nothing really differentiates her from any other perfect girl. No complexes, no birth marks or anything like that, nothing to make her special. She's just perfect, except when she cries and blushes too much. I mean, seriously, how Mayu and the Kou(i think that's his name?) guy kiss in front of takuma? plz. so cheesy and dramatic. It's so typical that yet another guy falls for the heroine. It seems that all typical shoujos have to have a heroine with multiple guys falling for her, but I wouldn't exactly call this typical. The thing is, I like how the author changed Mayu's hairstyle as she grew up. That showed progression, which I think is really important.
Takuma: Weak. He's just weak. But the thing is, if you look at him and compare him to all the other guys in the manga, he looks nothing like weak appearance-wise! I think the author needs to do a better job as depicting him as weak. Oh. But personality-wise is a different story. He is suchhhh a girl personality-wise. 'I don't want to hurt her..' blah blah. That may be sweet, but I wish he wasn't so weak and feminine. and the bleached hair? earrings? I've seriously had enough of shoujo mangas piercing the guy's ears to make him look cool! I don't understand why so many mangas do this to make the guy look cool! Like Takuma said that Mayu would hate him cuz he's changed, I hate it too. It's stupid and immature of him. And his hairSTYLE doesn't change at all! What's with mangakas, keeping the hair the same? At least Mayu changed. Ugh. So unrealistic.
I like how he blushed because of Teru though. Even though he likes Mayu, its only natural to blush. If he didn't, it would be too unrealistic coming from a weak guy like him.

Oh. And the love part. Do they really call this secret unrequited love? fail title. ITS NOT SECRET. AND ITS CERTAINLY NOT UNREQUITED. its so obvious that they like each other, and their love for eachother doesn't grow. It starts with a romantic atmosphere, and it doesn't really grow. If shoujo mangas want romance, they have to show growth. It all started lovey-dovey to me. And the whole 'she'll just be hurt in the end' from her parents, is so CHEEZY AND DRAMATIC. its just like an asian drama filled with drama. The plot? mehh...okay but with a plot you have to have unique characters. Not just characters with different personalities; I mean it has the usual playboy, d-cup bestfriend, nerd, etc. Not very special. AND childhood friends? wow. what's with manga and childhood friends? its screaming cliche. Anyways its better than typical shoujo but not a fantastic manga.

Good parts: It keeps you wanting to read more. It touches your heart slightly, but its just too dramatic for me. Read it when you're bored, but I didn't really cry from this. Recently, the chapters have been getting too stupid for me. And the mangaka killed Teru off too easily. Almost like nothing happened. WAYY too unrealistic. I mean SHE DIED. DEATH. That's big and she isn't mentioned or pitied after it really. The author would've been better off not bringing Teru into the story in the first place.

If you remove the whole 'dying at 20' plot than it would probably be the closest thing to a typical shoujo. Its good, but cmon. Don't hate me for not liking drama, but the author chose to make this dramatic. So don't tell me not to read this dramatic manga if I don't like drama cuz it could've done without it in my opinion.

SPOILER:
(I'm about 99% sure Takuma will die. They don't label it as tragedy for nothing. Plus, if he doesn't die than everything up until now would be a waste and total idiocy.)

yah...I give it a 7. Highest rating for me.

Really an awesome read and once I started, I couldn't help but complete the entire set of manga. The art is good (Aoki's unique and usual art style) and the plot is very well developed in the sense like there aren't any weird loopholes that aren't eventually answered by the end of the series. Also, it's one of the few shoujo manga where the characters don't irritate you as much (eg: the annoying girl surrounded by a harem of beautiful boys or a crazy love triangle etc). I especially found Mayu's character delightful, the way she isn't out to please just anyone and she has that soft side to her despite being mostly a Tomboy. I wish the movie version didn't cut out so many exciting bits. This might've been better made into a Drama but well, it's all good (:

Greatest Manga That I Have Ever Read

Updating my comment since I finally caught up with it. At first, I thought it was going to go off-track and take a comedy route to the story (which would truthfully be just awful)... but it still kept up to pace with its storyline. This is a must read for anyone that doesn't mind shedding a tear or two (in my case, however, I don't think I can count how many times I cried... and now just thinking about this series makes my chest hurt, but I'm in love with this manga). This is just such a beautiful, sometimes heart-breaking, manga.

I can't wait for the next release. It's driving me nuts!

For some reason I always feel that every manga I read is my favorite manga, but Boku no Hatsukoi wo Kimi ni Sasagu has officially taken the spot. This has actually become my favorite manga, and surprisingly this series is the first of it's genre (Shoujo/Romance). I've always been a fan of Shounen/Seinen, but this manga has really shaped my views... for the better.

I seriously suggest you read this. The entire manga is so great that I can't put it in words. I feel that anything I can say about it would be an understatment. You'll hate the characters you thought you once loved, but only to fall in love with them once again. You feel their pains and sorrows, but you also feel their love. This is a feat that not many novels could even pull off.

Anyways, this is a MUST READ... even if you thought Seinen/Shounen (i.e. masculine manga) are the only things that appeal to you. That used to be me, but this series has changed my entire opinion on the Shoujo/Romance, for the better.

No matter who you are, read this manga! I promise that you won't regret it.

Also, Starry Heaven is doing an amazing job with this manga. Their quality is more than superb. The schedule, however, is on the slow side. But you have to understand that they have their own lives to live, and this project is one of about twenty others. Then again... who am I to complain? I haven't helped with the scanlation/editing process. Although I'm hoping to help out in the future in some shape or form (probably when I'm able to set up a paypal account), I have no right to talk when all I've done is express my gratitude.

Anyways, you NEED to read this manga. In truth, I would call it perfection. But that's just me...

Boku no Hatsukoi wo Kimi ni Sasagu

Note: There may be spoilers in this
It's amazing... The art is good, and I just love how the story's shown from the guy's perspective. Everything was so realistic. I loved how the story began when they were little, but didn't skip straight to the present day after a chapter or two. This manga showed the characters grow up and changed. Although I typically dislike the "let's make each other jealous" thing, I think it really worked for this manga. Before the guy learned that he was going to die before he reached 20, they were very honest about their feelings. It was really quite cool how Mayu declared to her entire class that she was going to marry Takuma. The characters in this manga are very elaborate. Mayu isn't one of those girls that are supposed to be strongheaded but aren't. She's supposed to be strongheaded, smart, stuck-up, and not a total ditz, and the author totally nailed it for her. Dammit, I hope the guy lives... I'm such a sucker for happy endings (Screw the bitter-sweet crap).

In response to cowslaves comment: Just to clarify, this manga is NOTHING like Haou Airen. In my opinion, Haou Airen was more of unrealistically screwing the girl (Yay, a f*** festival) than going through realistic problems in life. And while they're both tragic, the Boku no Hatsukoi is much sweeter.

Sometimes i just cant stand this manga. It gets really annoying. My god, its obvious they both like each other. takuma is a coward, "I dont wanna break her heart for going out with her." It sickens me. Both of them are trying to make each other jealous. How uncanny for the author to just have the ability to have takuma and mayu to see each other in the most awkward and misleading situations. I'm tired of this manga. It almost seems like a chore to read it chapter by chapter as it comes out.

I love this manga and a few chapters in I got hooked on this. It is seriously one of the best mangas I've ever read and will ever read. It is so touching at times that it makes me shed tears and you also got to love the humor. I have to say that it is a masterpiece and it is in a league of its own!

The releases are coming kinda slow and I can't wait for new releases cuz this manga is like soooooo brilliant>.<! Keep it coming scanulators!

Probably THE best manga I've ever read, Boku Kimi has a plot much deeper than your usual shojo I-love-you, you-love-me, kind of thing. 12 volumes may seem long, but once you get into it you'll wish for it to never end. Takuma and Mayu~ <3 amazing couple
