Got boring and stale after some time. Art is fine, but no one of the characters piqued my interest nor sympathy. Maybe Rashta a little. Also, the advertising of this series and fandom behind it are mostly horrifying.

This is an angsty melodramatic historical fantasy with laughably awful side characters that are clearly created to be hated. It makes for a great hate read. The frustration and anger you will feel will keep you clicking "next." The art is also pretty good.

But, if you get into the plot, you realize logic flies out the window in this series. Character motivations are not consistent. World building and politics are childishly over-simplistic. Plot holes are casually glossed over.

If you think about this story even more, you realize that this story is villainizes the oppressed and glorifies people in power. It condones and glorifies slavery. It shows little to no sympathy to female characters other than the FL. This story honestly doesn't deserve the mainstream popularity it has.

But I will say, it is very fun to watch the ex-husband grovel.

It started good, but maybe the process on "how she remarried" just took too long and gotta be honest that it gets boring.

I agree to some who said Rashta developed character. Perhaps because she climbed up with nasty ways based on her love of her child (mind you, thats not the same of saying she becomes better person).

As for the empress, the emperor and others.. well, they are kinda bland. It would gives more "angst" if the series only less than 100 chapters.. (e.g glass wall)

i haven’t made a review in months bc i’m lazy but i suddenly remember the visceral hatred i had for this manhwa (or more specifically, its deeply misogynistic fanbase) and felt the need to level out some of the reviews. everyone else can inform you about how much they appreciate a fun, tense, revenge filled plot and the hot himbo simp characters or whatever but i’m going to skim over why i despise this series:

- the writing is incredibly predictable and goes nowhere. plot lines with no real purpose other than to stretch out the series.

- navier, the main character, has no distinct personality. she’s quiet and regal = she’s bland on screen. as are the majority of the characters, including her stock evil ex husband and her unconditionally adoring lover.

- i can’t stand the fucking author, man. all they do is appeal to the internalized misogyny of their fanbase. rashta is the stereotypical “other woman” blah blah; let’s talk about how the author specifically writes rashta in order to uphold SLAVERY. instead of being portrayed as the sympathetic character who narrowly escaped a lifetime of torment, rashta is frequently portrayed in an unuanced, negative lighting, thus lending multiple fans to constantly ridicule her for a variety of reasons, including the fact that she is “unworthy” and “lesser” because she was a slave, and navier was an empress. how great of an empress can navier even be if she couldn’t even bother to abolish slavery? what a horrible and incredibly insensitive portrayal of slavery.

- pretty much the only thing i can see someone mildly praising this for is the exceptional art.

regardless, it’s really not worth picking up if you’ve an ounce of critical thinking. there are far better ois with plot lines or characters in similar fashion. FUCK slavery apologists, bottom line. 1/10

I dislike Rashta; I understand where she's coming from but also am on Navier's side. The empress tried to respect her and it just wasn't nice seeing Rashta's actions to undermine her or at least respectfully keep a distance, she just kept trying to insult Navier once she realized they weren't going to be 'friends.' Still reading and waiting for season 2, I like it so far

there are some infuriating characters in this doing hilariously dumb things and it's pretty good escapism as long as you don't think too hard about power dynamics (particularly where rashta is concerned). mostly you keep reading in the hopes that you'll see sovieshu get absolutely f*ing owned, and the author does a fine job of playing that drama out.

There are so many reasons that this story sucks but imo the biggest is that we're expected to see Rashta as the villain. I have NO idea why everyone who reads this seems to hate her so bad... she is probably the most-developed character in this sh*t-show. What story has everyone else been reading where she's a character worthy of such a reaction? Because I want to read that. She is a slave brooooo she is a SLAVE she is just trying to gain independence... what has she even done wrong? Why is she the bad guy in this story? Wish she was the protagonist instead: her character is sympathetic and strong, and she does a lot in her limited role. There's a lot of agency in her plot and it's refreshing.

In comparison Navier is supposed to seem regal and very wronged because her throne is being stolen, I guess, but it just feels terrible to see her looking down on a woman who IS A SLAVE!!! DON'T FORGET THAT!!!! because she doesn't have perfect etiquette like Navier does? As a character she just feels.. bland and unnecessary, which is hilarious considering that the story is supposed to be about her. The root of her struggles is that... her marriage is a little cold? Girl you are the Empress 👏🏼 THE 👏🏼 MFING 👏🏼 EMPRESS 👏🏼 this is nothingggg you have wars to deal with omfg why are you worried about this. Go do whatever rich powerful people do in this story. Defend the slave system a bit more maybe. Stop moping, god.

Started reading cuz it looked interesting at first but, i have to agree with the guy below me....i want to see the REMARRIED EMPRESS not the story till they get there (it feels like im watching How i met your mother all over again, but without much interesting content). What was the point in the story starting with their divorce if you just have to witness the goddam ''FLASHBACK'' for wwho knows how many chapters. I get it, it will happen at some point, but, by then, i will probably be bored out of my mind. Give it a try if you wanna see just some tipical palace drama, it is quite good in that aspect. The characters are ok (except for rashta who behaves like a child that throws a tantrum everytime)
