When humans try to play god there is always those who will resist.
As medical science advances there is a dramatic increase in the aging population and drastic world policy is adopted to curb population. All people are setwith a death age. To carry out the policy the Institute is established and as the Institute becomes a place of power, influential men begin to use it for their personal gain.
The poor are still unable to afford the medical advances that science has made. Joon-sung who lives with his mother and sister is one of these unfortunate poor. They cannot afford the cure for their mother’s terminal illness. As two orphaned children they are easy targets for human traffickers and Joon-sung’s sister is abducted. Joon-sung is filled with pain and rages against an unjust society. He vows to make it into the Institute and become a person whom people fear. The first thing he does is change his name to Ji-hoon as he embarks on a new life.
In Ji-hoon’s assignments he experiences the dark side of human nature and his distrust in humanity grows as he sees people’s evil up close and personal. Then unexpectedly, a man comes to him begging to be put to death instead of his wife. And rumors start of fly about Ji-hoon. He confronts Si-hyun, the source of the rumors and is shocked to learn that his sister who was presumed dead had been alive all this time. With this new information, Ji-hoon slowly changes and cannot focus on his job. His head is filled only with thoughts of his long lost sister.
