5 years ago, Haruki's brother Hiroki was swept away by the raging river when the bridge Haruki had built broke, and Haruki believes he is responsible for his death.
Oneshot (Complete)

I feel like there was supposed to be something really deep here, but I couldn't find it. I've heard all sorts of versions ranging from it all being a dream, Hiroki coming back to help the protagonist move on or even that the protagonist himself was dead all along and that the brothers had died together back on that bridge.
The story has pretty artwork and still touches me emotionally, but I can't give it high marks because no matter how many times I go through the story, I can't figure out what it's really about. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be just a case of a bad translation either...
so short, and still it gets to me every time i read it.
the promise hiroki had made was to cross the bridge first (which he didn't do the first time around, because the bridge shattered).
I thought it was really well done, albeit a little vague. The promise made by the elder brother was that he'd cross the bridge first. I had to go back to the beginning to read it, since I didn't remember what the promise really was. The art is pretty good. It's really short but the mangaka deserves props for painting such a deep emotional story in such few pages. The premise
(of the beloved older brother being dead / killed by the younger brother, the younger brother dealing with a lot of guilt and being haunted, in a sense, by memories of his older brother, and then the older brother coming back) reminded me A LOT of the amazing Emily Carroll's comic (not a manga but a webcomic and REALLY good + awesome quirky art) "His Face All Red", which I thought this was going to be similar to. When the ! older brother came back I thought it would be about vengeance, but it's not. This manga is a much nicer story than HFAR, but both are two different outcomes of the same story IMO so if you liked this story you should DEFINITELY read HFAR. link: http://emcarroll.com/comics/faceallred/01.html This story is very sad and touching while HFAR is haunting and has much more suspense/tension.
It just... what happened?
Well, actually i extremely confused with this manga! The protagonist, Haruki, is he having a dream or he having the reality that make him met his brother once again?
But this manga actually ALMOST touch my heart. It's quite good! But i wouldn't recommend this manga if you even doesn't interested at this manga.
Very sad, if a little vague, story. I'm not too sure what the 'promise' was that the elder brother, Hiroki, made to the younger, Hiruki, that he could finally keep at the end. It was touching when Hiruki said, "No, don't go! I'll make another bridge - even if it's across the river Styx."
This story is more like a flash of a dream sequence perhaps in Hiruki's mind.
