How do I describe...
It's a story as the title suggests, sugar water. But it's almost literal. Does that mean it's bad? No. It is good? I can't say that either. It's mediocre, and when I say that I mean average, not bad, just average.
It's one of those light stories, without much melodrama, nothing that makes you nervous or ecstatic. It won't irritate you, but it also won't leave you in an emotional state that I call "you want to keep it in a little jar and wrap it in a warm blanket", it doesn't give you that feeling.
With the same type of proposal, I know better works that are more emotional such as the classic Cherry Blossoms After Winter, Dekoboko Sugar Days, Eigyou Ni-ka!, Hige to Suzu to Shabondama, My Home Your One Room, Love Me Dramatically, Omega Complex ... But these explore the story much better and I say that, because the author had several hooks to make the story more engaging, emotional, and interesting, but I decided not to do anything big.
The fact that Dan was an orphan and the orphanage itself could have been better explored (after all, it is impossible for someone from the orphanage not to have left some mark on the boy throughout his life, but this is ignored in the story), a possible curiosity about mother (which several people in this situation end up having), the family he ran away from (they simply left that aside and it was never mentioned if there was any search or anything like that). The dramatic moment was one of possessiveness, which was previously worked on given the obsession of Dan's previous partners, but it was done so far that it was poorly done at the same time. The author introduced the plot, but she added it whenever she wanted, it wasn't something worked on in each chapter, stipulating more incisive and recurring gradual attempts. There was one attempt and the second time it happened it was the final climax, I was like (????) "that's it? I was prepared to feel angry". It was disappointing...
And the imprint... Ah, what can I say about that. They approached the subject at the time of the 20 chapters and it only happened at the end in a mediocre way. I understood the author's intention, but something else was missing, romanticism. For me, it was something extended for 40 chapters for nothing.
Anyway, it's not bad, but it's not good either. It's forgettable, I wouldn't read it again, because it didn't make me feel anything.
