I haven't really read anything like this; the main character is very uniquely characterized, and so is the setting and plot. The characters are all special in their own way; they have individual traits and pasts that make them who they are. Still, with that being said, I didn't really enjoy this. The art was lovely and varied, and here was a nice bit of humor along with the drama and romance... but I just didn't like it!
I totally understand why other people love this, since it's definitely a high quality work, but I guess I didn't like Kizuna all that much. She was a great character, but I don't think she fits with Asai well, since she'll never really understand him. Plus, I feel bad for Yuki, who's awesome, and suits Kizuna more. Speaking of her, Kizuna's character is strong and unique, but also young, inexperienced, and sort of selfish. She's very realistic, overall... just not my cup of tea. She's still young, so it's understandable, but I find her to be inconsiderate and mean sometimes. I also find Asai to be like that, as well- he doesn't consider Kizuna's feelings, and even at the end, he
Asks her to wait for him even though he says he might never love only her? C'mon, man. That's a little callous.
Basically, this might be up your alley, it just wasn't up mine- the characterization is great, the plot is incredibly unique for a romance shoujo, and there's a lot of psychological stuff that's done pretty well. The art is also good, and suits the story well. With that being said, I didn't like this- even if it's a "different" romance story, it's still a romance story... and I don't think it's a very good one. The two main characters don't connect very well, and I don't know if they could ever be truly happy together. Also, I happen to like Yuki much more than I like Asai, so that makes me like the main couple even less. Still, that's personal opinion- I can't deny this is a well-thought out and well-executed manga. Just not for me.
