Dated art style but superb storyline

I know some people are complain that they don't feel enough suspense as it seems like Tokuchi always wins but I feel like in this case its better that way as I can't imagine Tokuchi losing 😭. But do read the manga for the continuation, there was a match against the mariners in the manga that I really felt like he has a possibility of losing which made me sooooooo anxious.

But overall I loveee the plot as well as the MC's devil may care attitude. Wish there were more series with such MCs, anyone has any recommendations do pm me!

I loved One Outs when it was initially released, and when I reread it, I came to enjoy the manga even more. Tokuchi is a great protagonist, all the more so since one rarely sees such black-bellied and scheming characters in that role.

There's also something very unique about a story that's simultaneously about baseball and gambling, and even involves infighting - for most of the story, Tokuchi's main antagonist isn't any of the rivaling baseball teams, but rather his own boss.

Note on the manga structure: Chapters 33 to 81 basically aren't scanlated, so you'll have to watch parts of the anime for that. Also, volume 20 is a flashback story. The main story properly concludes at chapter 167. Don't go into volume 20 expecting a continuation.

doesn't have good suspense

One outs problem for me is mostly how the series creates suspense and it doesn't do it well whether is trying to catch you by surprise due to misleading by making us think he will lose but he has a psychological plan, doesn't make you feel emotional there by being curious with excitement on how the protagonist solves the problem since everything in this series feels too easy for the protagonist as towa is too much of a gary stu and since I know he is a gary stu i never feel any sense of dread, anxiety or any other strong emotion on how he solves things as I always to my self, side characters worry for towa next chapter reveal towa had a plan and everyone act surprise like it's intelligent, while it's not that intelligent of a plan just a normal or slightly good plan I could see some of them coming and side character act really shocked.

Overall for overrated since towa uses his uber gary stu power to win every baseball match with ease as it always goes according to plan for him, just boring check out steins gate to see more well written suspense.

This is a must read manga/must watch anime series that is often missed by the masses. I've only heard about this series yesterday myself through streaming random recommendations through youtube.

Btw, you don't need to know the rules of baseball to have to enjoy this anime. You don't even have to like baseball or sports in any sense of the word... this series is purely drama and psychological with a hint of sports to smooth our but hurt :3 Kinda gives off a Giant Killing feel.

The anime structure and tone reminds of a lot of Kaiji.
You'll definitely enjoy this series if you enjoyed Kaiji and vice-versa.

One of my top favourites manga! Despite not being a big sport fan, I absolutely love the whole psychological aspect of it! I've watched the anime and i instant loved it! When there was no more videos left, I was sad, but then I realized that there was a manga version which extended! You don't know how happy I was!

It also didn't help that he reminds me so much of Hiruma in Eyeshield 21, who I absolutely LOVE!

Manga blew my mind. I watched the anime to get through the first 10 vols without reading and it's mad beautiful animation despite having released a couple of years ago. Then the manga is amazing 'cause Tokuchi is so badass you start rooting for him to win even though he's pretty much cheating. Obviously

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Kojima's existence becomes secondary :( but he was still viable regardless

You know that feeling of great loss after finishing an amazing manga? I felt like crying after finishing One Outs sad

I'ts fun, exciting, mind-blowing story that you just keep waiting for the new chapter everydays. you wouldn't expect from such a simple bet can expand to that level of issues. the writer really great at expanding the story, character whilst keeping the main character history is the dark. its recommended read..

btw a lot people compare this main character Tokuchi Toua with eyeshield 21's Hiruma Youichi. well I agree that they're both are the same level trickster, devilish but with different approach. Hiruma more prefer to slice enemy is one slash while Tokuchi prefer play around and makes enemy drown in regret.

Tokuchi is an amazing character even to the end. Although his baseball skills are average he's the extremely evil super genius whose power to decipher and controls everyone's actions allows him to become a threat to every team that plays against him. Amazing character, suspenseful plotline that keeps you guessing and most of all, a very satisfying ending. I think the extra sequel volume is unnecessary but it's quite good as well, so it's worth reading. Highly recommend this to anyone who likes psychological warfare. Ah, only minor issue is the mangaka writes One Outs assuming you know something about baseball so not everything is explained in detail which made me a tad confused since I know nothing about baseball bigrazz
