Description
Mizuki gets confessed to by a boy in front of a special Mirror. Legend has it, that if you confess to someone you like in front of that mirror your wish comes true.
There is a slight Problem in this Equation: Mizuki is just a very feminine looking boy.
Also it seems that he caught the Attention of the Norse Trickster God Loki while glancing into the Mirror. Loki decides out of boredom to mess with Mizuki and turns him into a real Girl.

this is awful. men can be feminine and gay without being women. complete waste of good art and borderline offensive
It would have been OK and I would have giving it a higher rating if the comedy was good. Usually those tags hit my niche, but for some reason I did not enjoy reading this.
The comedy was weak... Do you even call laughing at the expense of someone's discomfort a comedy? Feels like a dose of it's so "kawaisou" that it's "kawaii" *facepalms*. Or maybe seeing people getting constantly blushed (AND NOT IN A CUTE WAY BUT in a humiliating embarrassment) constantly satisfying? God I would have preferred reading To-Love Ru/Ayakashi Triangle 1000x more than this, and I don't even like To-Love Ru that much. There's not even VARIANCE in the type of comedy it deploys. The mangaka is a sadist seeing that they like to rely on making things confusing -> fun. But if it goes down this route maybe a serious vibe and approach would have done better; however it tries to blend a "serious issue" with "a lighthearted tone" so I can't take it seriously anymore. It feels inappropriate and denigrating (also a shit tons of gaslighting). A story that used this type of blending properly would be Kaguya-Sama, where the serious moments come at appropriate timings and so is the comedy moments, Boku Girl would have been the epic fail rendition of that ideal.
It just feels very uncomfortable to read... so I dropped it 20-30 chapters in. But if you enjoy the above tactics that this mango deploy, I guess you'll enjoy it. Guess it was just not for me lol.

Boku Girl struck me on a deeply personal level, but I wouldn't recommend it without reservations. I found Mizuki's core conflict so compelling that I can forgive Boku Girl's flaws, but its flaws are serious, and will put some people off.
In general, the main characters are excellent. The protags act with believable motivations, albeit with some concessions for the genre -- they will get nude when it doesn't quite make sense, and they'll be stupid sometimes for the sake of bad gags (and a few good ones). But when it's being serious, Boku Girls' core relationships and personalities develop organically and believably, and major personal and interpersonal moments feel earned.
Loki is a useful antagonist. As a goddess of trickery bent on making the lives of her targets as complicated as possible, she's a good lampshade for all the will-they-won't-they contrivances typical to a RomCom. The protags earnestly want to settle their differences, but Loki constantly interferes and casts doubt into the equation. While this draws the plot out somewhat, her diversions force them to work through hard issues that only serve to serve to strengthen their portrayals.
The side characters were less welcome diversions. With few exceptions they always felt like they just got in the way of more interesting things. I could forgive that if they were funny, but they're dull at best, and offensive at worst, and tend to derail the plot in the most aggravating ways. Thankfully they're throwaway.
I mentioned "offensive," above. As a trans woman, I tend to be sensitive to portrayals of people off of the binary, and this manga is aggressively binary and heterosexist at times, and, outside of the main character, too often makes gender deviance the thrust of its humor, which will typically turn me off completely. I endured them because the real meat of the story is unexpectedly progressive on other points.
So why did I love it so much? Because the central conflicts were so well done. First, the love triangle is refreshingly free of the usual petty sentiments.
Yes, of course they all get jealous at points, but that jealousy is tempered by their growing love for one-another as friends as well. Boku Girl deftly avoids relying on easy stereotypes to drive their development, and instead takes the more challenging, but ultimately more rewarding, route of building these characters, which takes them in pleasantly unexpected directions.
More central to my love of the story is Mizuki's internal conflict over their own gender. Gender is so rarely examined with any real honesty or depth in fiction, but Boku Girl doesn't shy away from fundamental questions of what it means to be a boy or be a girl. I don't always agree with its premises (again, the heteronormativity and binarism is heavy-handed, even providing for the relative immaturaty of the characters), but its developments track with my personal experience of being trans so well that I can only wonder whether the author Sugito Akira either researched the topic or has dealt with it personally.

Now, real trans people have stories varied enough that Mizuki's experiences won't track for all of us, but they will for many of us. Familiar topics include denial, self-loathing, gender euphoria, bingeing and purging, relearning your social role, and experiences with aggressive male sexual attention along the mixed feelings of affirmation and revolt that can come with that.
The denial in particular hit a note for me. I spent 20-odd years of my life fully convinced I was a boy accosted with intrusive thoughts about girly things, and another 7 years accepting those feelings would never leave but refusing to give in. Denial is not easy to overcome. I was 27 before I came to terms with it. Mizuki is 14, and thrown into her situation well before she's developed the courage to face her dysphoria. While many trans women would be THRILLED to be transformed overnight from top to bottom, it's difficult to imagine what that might feel like when you're so deep in the closet that you've blocked out even the possibility that you're trans. This is the true genius in Loki's bedvilment: Mizuki is getting her wildest dreams and facing her deepest fears at the same time, and over the same thing. Seeing Mizuki fight her femininity tooth and nail at one point, then "give in," only to be hit with pangs of guilt and shame was so fucking raw it shook me.
Mizuki spends most of the story swearing that she'll be a man again some day. To make her father proud, to make her friends admire her, to live up to the idea that every boy learns: Being a boy is an honor, and you're one of the lucky ones. That's a brutal lesson to unlearn even when you have years to unlearn it. When she finally comes to terms with who she is in the end, it feels like a celebration. Loki's petty trick was a gift, and all that pain is worth it when you can finally be who you need to be.
It's rare enough that I encounter characters in a manga that both feel genuinely trans and that get to be the main focus, but even rarer that it's someone who doesn't fit the "standard" narrative of the "child who has always known that they were trans." To see one in a wacky romcom genderbender came as a real surprise.

First aspect is the comedy of it, it is a hit or miss with what it does like the ecchi cliche of accidentally revealing ur pantsu or something, thosekinds of jokes never amuse me, but the exaggeration of characters, 2 particular ones and her dad that were obssessed with our protagonist really got me and never failed to humour me.
Spoiler: The characters themselves were alright, they had some things about them that felt like it was badly written, but sometimes they are interesting and the love triangle aspects of it was also very interesting.
The intimate scenes are especially captivating too and just made me wanna read more lol and lastly the story overall is very refreshing and fun and it keeps you from wanting to see more and personally I find the ending to be a sweet and satisfying

I finish the manga at 13/06/2018. The manga is very interesting, after chapter 98(My choice) i though when Loki back to upper world was hoping the route will change that if Mizuki want to take Loki back human world. And after that chapter until ending I think its was to straight line. Just wanted to say hoping for curve line in the story. One more, my feel for the ending of the story seem something lack for me. IDK what to say. Its okay about my opnion. The illustration manga is very good, the story is very good. Thank you very much for making this manga.
The comedy was sometimes hit or miss generic stuff. For example, main character getting gender swapped and then having to deal with using bath or bathroom of new gender (hilarity is then supposed to ensue), etc. That's just one example we've seen many times before. The main character also seemed to lose some points in intelligence when becoming a girl considering some of the stupid stuff that she does, which is kinda of insulting to women. That's not to say that it was all bad, there were some good funny moments and if you like fan service this also has some. This might have turned into an average comedy with a rating of 5 or 6, but the ending surprised me some. Usually authors opt for a more conservative or conventional approach. The end had a little more balls than normal and knocks it up.

Often what you see is the character returning to their original gender and perhaps learning a lesson either about themselves or the other gender. Perhaps a love interest makes the character want to return to their original gender so that they can be with them (something you see more often when its a girl cross dressing like a guy). Sometimes the status quo is maintained like the gender bender character continues to cross dress or be the other gender in an ambiguous ending. Occasionally and in this case the character chooses to stay in their new gender and is happier in the new gender. Here it also wasn't done strictly because of a love interest, but because the character had always been trying to be something he wasn't that is a big and strong guy. The people around him recognize that he's better suited to being a girl and are supportive.
You don't usually find that thoughtfulness in an ecchi manga. They usually go for the simple route or the joke route at the end. This kicks the grade up a level for me. Its still not a 10, but hey way to raise the bar a little there. Also the art was sometimes freaking cute. Good job there.
Truly enjoyed this Manga and would love to see an anime adaption. Personally thought the character progression was good and the ending was a happy sad feeling. Hope to see a spin off with Loki up to her tricks again. After this highly suggest kanojo ni naru hi
The plot just magically turns in favour of the main character towards the end with no real progression, characters get introduced just for the sake of it. A decent read if you like cuteness over plot, otherwise just move along.
Really enjoyed reading this. I adore all the characters, art is very nice too. So sad it has ended (with nothing else grabbing my interest lately).
