I started this series because I was looking for full color/fantasy, and it has become one of my favorites. The plot is interesting, unexplained things are explained later, and the characters are engaging with interesting pasts that are later revealed. It also doesn't fall into the trope of giving the magicians levels, and while they do have ranks, it is not a main focus of the plot and doesn't use game elements(that I noticed).

One of my all time favs!
The main character is so f*cking awesome, the story is amazing, the humor is great,the supporting charas are adorable (especially Dio, omg Dio)...
Définitely recommended, can't wait to read future chapters!

I hate how the low ratings are because people are complaining that our hero is complaining that our hero can't go apeshit on enemies to solve problems.

Well I for one actually like it that he thinks before he uses his power. He uses his powers after diplomacy fails and I like that about a hero. He has brains.

The comments about pacing are a bit true. The pacing is a bit slow but it definitely is a good read and keeps you on your toes everytime. Very good webtoon and definitely worth your time.

Ignore all the comments below dissing this webtoon. One person mentioned that this was forced and unrealistic but they never reached the backstory of the main characters and probably have no idea who The King is and schicmons backstory to why he acts like and ass. This webtoon is very interesting don't judge by the comments are for yourself why this is a popular webtoon.

I almost quit reading it once I saw the art the first few pages, but the story had magic. Once magic is in the mix I become entangled.

I did not regret my decision as soon the series progressed. It was my type of pace. Slow almost as if to keep enticing the reader again and again. Skip Beat pace, pleasantly anticipating.

As far as the characters, they hold their own. Rood and Dio are the cutest characters to witness. I assure myself of this every time my heart skips a beat.

I feel as though I'm 10 again, and reading through a manga that makes really easy sense. It being easy is something I don't take for granted. Especially if it is spiced up with humor.

I do enjoy hard to read things, but manga's like this are what made me start reading manga. I appreciate it. Therefore, 8 on arbitrary scale of greatness.

Starts off slow and confusing, picks up speed

This is a great webtoon, but about 15 of the 30 chapters out right now feel like the author/artist was just playing around, trying to get their feet solidly on the ground. Once the school life arc kicks off, it really picks up, but until then you get very bogged down by the apparently random subplots and the art.

The main protagonist is great fun. He's the Only Sane Man among his original group, and has been bestowed with a generous dollop of common sense. Watching him delivering beatdowns is very satisfying in a sort of deep down "ahhh, justice" sort of manner.

@serobins I have no idea what you mean. That only happened to me in the first few chapters, the art becomes better though.

@PZcolo You probably won't read any further so I'll spoil a bit.
"the master is an idiot who uses the most powerful magician in the world as a toy"

The master is actually Rood's older brother, the reason he says for giving petty missions is to lie low because of crazy dog Shic, the real reason is protectiveness and to keep him out of sight of the tower at all cost.

Stop taking shonen seriously, they are always blown out of proportion when it comes to that stuff (do I have to mention Vegeta?). Same with Shic, all of his "I'll kill you"'s are just his way of trash talking during battle.

Shic is a really important person, which is why he's still free even though he's dangerous. And I mean like top of their world important.

Also, for all intents and purposes Black Haze happens in another world which has different rules? Plus, it's a comedy? There are no jokes, most of the comedic moments are from the well drawn expressions and "oops, damn!" situations. True, there is way better out there if you want a deep and earnest plot, but Black Haze never claimed to be something it isn't. "Tragedy" might be a bit misleading.

As a mage-ruled fantasy story, this is not entirely generic. I can't put my finger on it but it has the all the right hooks to keep you reading - the main character is such a wish fulfillment type of hero that you can't help but like him. It doesn't get a perfect score but it has a lot of potential and I think the story telling is well done. So far so good, i'd recommend it, and I don't normally recommend mainstream type shounen easily.

I tend to wait a few weeks and read multiple chapters in a go, it's quite enjoyable, I don't see anything wrong with pacing or plot arrangement.

This is a really good! Unfortunately it comes out biweekly and many of the chapters are short and leave you hanging. I like that there is plot development rather than just a one or two chapter story that suddenly jumps to a different topic. The main character is cute, but has that secret double-life which always leads to an interesting story. Can't wait to see how the story develops!
